Wants to go fast
|
well i've been reluctant to share with everybody what my daily driver is since it was an impulse buy and im not very satisfied with it, plus i get a lot of heat from car guys (very understandable.)
but i drive a 2007 dodge caliber R/T AWD. its slow, and has a crappy CVT transmission. i did a lot of cosmetic mods back when i was in high school, then pretty much ditched modding it in favor of the gecko project. last night an oil leak got the best of the 2.4 world engine that was in it, and it gave up. sounds like i poured marbles in my engine. so now im looking at two options-- a) i found another 2.4 world engine for $800. it has 15k miles on it and i could just put it right in, no problems. b) put some badass engine swap in there and confuse the hell out of people when they realize they got beat by a caliber R/T. so the question is, back to the slow 2.4 DCX engine, or put something else in there? and if something else, what? (and i would prefer a RWD set up if i went with another motor...just to make it badass)

he said RWD the "R" stands for REAR ![]() I say back to stock..sell it.. get a regular beater and pimp the gecko and RWD would take nothing more than disconnecting the front driveshaft or changing the transmission...it all depends on the location of the current transfer case.if its built in or seperate n00bs

that would be a dumb way of making a awd a rwd, why keep the extra weight of cv;s and a transfer case? LOLLOL good laughs.

Hondas? I work on German and Italian cars when I'm bored..didn't know Mercedes or Audi made civics..but w/e makes you happy.
Shit..you don't even know the difference between a driveshaft and an axle..so why are you even trying to argue your short sided case? He said it would take work to make it RWD.. that it would take a lare investment and chassis modification...which in some cases is true.. but for the most part..any AWD can be converted to RWD fairly easily if the car has a central transfer case. You just remove the driveshaft (again not a fucking thing about axles) so that power to the front wheels is cut. Fucking 09'er learn how to read and properly process the information before your vagina gets all sandy and people have to laugh at you |

i may have joined this site in 09 but that dont mean shit, if i were to go awd to rwd, which i dont think i would ever do such a stupid thing, i would pull the blown motor with the tranny, the transfercase, the front differential and the cv. why in the world would you leave extra mechanical parts on it to fail, a front diff lockin up and such, please dont claim to be a know it all just because you were here before 09 thats the stupidest shit ive ever heard.

You're funny..I'm gonna enjoy seein your posts on this board...
I missed your point, cause you're a moron who can't make one post without constantly backtracking..my statement was about awd in general...not the dodge cvt..I leave domestics bs to cocky little bitches like you, an honestly could really care less if used the hydraulic system from a space shuttle to open the a/c vents..its a stupid car..period. Unimaginative and boring. many awd systems don't have a separate transfer case or front diff.. so how would you remove those.. Parents money?? That's new to me.. I'm almost 30 an ain't seen a dime of that..so if you know something I don't..pm me an I'll be happy to go into the 7/11 an buy some beers for you an your mullet buddies. Again man..you're awesome entertainment...you take bait like a hooker hops on dick. Welcome to H-I, keep up the good work ![]() Oh an Gecko..sorry man..it seems you can't make a thread without it going OT, I apologize.. But really keep your focus on the Gecko.. at the end of the day, that caliber is still a chrysler cookie cutter car Last edited by VashThaStampede; 11-07-2009 at 06:05 PM. |

so sorry to fuck up your thread gecko1000, just get the 800 dollar motor, a swap will set you BACK, makin speedo n shit work, plus gettin an emission sticker would be hell seeing as thats a newer car that plugs into OBDII it gets the vin from the computer.
im thinking about building something like your gecko1000 but more along the lines of 4wd with independent suspension and 4 wheel steering, not looking for street legal tho. ive build something similar to what you have now but it was out of a fl350 frame with a busa engine. |

Man you guys are funny...You do both have valid points though...Although, you can't simply disconnect the drive shaft and all the sudden have RWD, cuz then you would still have the front diff rotating as the wheels rotated and could make it lock up, then you would have even more problems on your hands...And then of course, you run into all the extra weight of the AWD parts and it would be best to get rid of all that, and that would end up costing even more money...Now, there are ways to make that car disengage the front end when needed, but that's gonna be a lot of money...
So basically, I guess I am saying that you need to just go the cheap route and just spend the $800 to replace the motor with another stock motor, or else you are gonna be looking at a lot more money than originally planned...Plus, the caliber is a girl's car anyway... |

HA! last time i checked this thread there were 2 replies. epic
![]() yeah i ended up going back to stock. i dont want to keep this car any longer than i need to (i traded one of my parents old cars in on it, and they said if i keep it till its paid off, i dont owe them the equity, which was 7k.). another 2.4l slowbanger is in, and im thinking about rebuilding the bad motor, boosting it, hooking it up to a 5spd manual FWD set up, and putting it in the next gecko-type car. |
