What motor would b helpful. ive asked the same question for my eg with a d16z6 and across the board was turbo for a sohc. theyre expensive to build and u can sink the same money into a dohc and get more results. turbo kits for sohc are pretty easy to find.

I would def go with a DOHC swap, you will spend around the same and with the SOHC engine after you hit the limit you might want more power. The DOHC engine (depending on the block) you might have more room for power/tq. Thats just my opinion though, havent been in the honda game for a while so not trully sure of the SOHC potential v.Dohc potential. Judging by Displacement

It really depends on what your goal is, if you think you'd be happy with ~300whp (which if you haven't had a boosted car before will be more than enough) then I'd say build a boost the dseries. You can get have a fully built d-series for under $1k, add a turbo setup for another $2-3k depending on parts, etc... and you're golden. A swap in decent shape you're looking at a minimum of $2k just to get the motor in the car and running then you're looking at the additional $2-3k to boost it. So by this math you'd save $1k sticking with d-series.

semi-built single cam.
rods, pistons and bearings (rods and rod bolts are the main weak point), head studs, head gasket of your choice, a nice little cam like a skunk unit (been a while since ive dealt with a honda), walboro 255 lph fuel pump, dsm injectors (or even 550cc), adjustable fpr, ebay turbo kit, brand name turbo (precision, garret, etc..), 2 bar map sensor, and chipped ecu with obd1 jumper harness running a program of your choice (hondata, ectune, crome...) have fun :-) edit: you will need a clutch and flywheel. the stock ones won't hold.... edit 2: boost controller, wideband o2 sensor... a real exhaust.... im sure i'll remember more. im old. |
