    Gaming Computers/Laptops

Since this was one of those threads that did get updated from time-to-time.
    Also, technology moves forward.

Unfortunately, I'm still on my i7-2600k build. I am watercooled with an H100i so can possibly overclock for some juice if needed.
Still have the GTX550ti because I don't game much. And if I do play games, they don't use up much of my resources.

I did buy a 'gaming' laptop a couple of years ago. I believe it has an ivy bridge i7 and some GTX mobile GCs.

Then after that I bought a macbook pro 13" with an i5.

Just can't see myself buying any more as I have not found a need yet.

    Post on.

Building a machine right now with the Rizen 7 processor. It'll be liquid cooled with some custom case mods. I'll get pics up when I get it finished.

It really is really easy. You can find tons of build help guides on youtube. Look up Linus Tech Tips. They have some really good videos on builds. Good camera angles and what not.

Question: if I had about 20 120gb samsung SSDs, what would be the best way to use em?

You could use them as coasters bit I would just use them in a computer.

Anyone else building an Intel rig after the recent security issues? I'm piecing together a Coffee Lake build, but after hearing that news, I'm kind of hesitant about it.

Depends on what data you need to store and how you need to access it.

SSDs that small are (duh) not going to hold very much. You will get much better density (GB per disk or enclosure) out of nearline SAS or SATA drives. The SSDs are higher performance, but whether you actually benefit from that performance really depends on the use case.

If you bought a NAS enclosure that supports tiering, you could have an SSD tier and other tier(s) made of SAS or nearline SAS/SATA. Depending on the use case, that might be a complete waste of time. For example if you are trying to stand up a NAS to store media files - playback would be sequential reads and likely not based on MRU - so SSD caching or tiering isn't going to help that application, and you'd give up valuable drive bays to install some tiny SSDs.

I will say that if you build a NAS, use storage class drives rated for the purpose.

And have backups. RAID is not a backup.

Wouldn't even sweat it. Unless you really think the black hats of the world are trying to hack your gaming computer.

I considered a desktop, but I'm just too mobile.
I purchased an Alienware R3 15 and so far it has been great.

    i7 7700k
    16GB DDR4 2400mhz
    GTX 1070 8GB DDR5
    M.2 nVME SSD Boot
    M.2 nVME SSD Storage
    2.5 HDD 7200 RPM Storage

Plan on connecting a 144hz monitor to run from the HDMI 2.0 port or the Thunderbolt 3 port.

What stores in Houston that have a good sized selection of gaming mice and mech keyboards out to try out? Best Buy and Frys dont have much. And Microcenter wasn't that big but I may go back to try out their shit again as its been a while.

And what monitor should I get if I am running 80-100fps at medium to high settings? If I am at these settings (playing PUBG) then is it worth it to upgrade from my 7 year old 60hz monitor?

I just got in to PC games and signed up to Steam. How often do Steam sales happen? I am waiting on METAL GEAR SOLID V: The Definitive Experience to drop.

    Thanks
