Well I was out w/ the group last night and we kinda got split up at one point. I ended up on the Beltway w/ Jason and Shami in the red Supra and Brad in his black NSX. We got some wide open road and Brad started honking at me while we went about 60. I slowed down to about 40 thinking that's about where he wanted to go from, but instead we slowed all the way down to about 20-25mph and I locked it into 1st.

I hear *honk honk ho..* from Brad and we're off. I can't really see because the Z has huge blindspots, but I feel like I get the jump through 1st and into 2nd. I hold about even in 2nd and on the shift to 3rd Brad has pulled about 3/4 of a length ahead of me but I gained just a tad bit on his shift. By the time I shifted to 4th though, he was a good 2 cars away and walking.

We ran again and it was pretty much the same both times. I was very pleased considering my car wasn't boosting right last night. Hopefully that'll be fixed very soon... :)

I'll be glad to mention our race.

To make a long story short, Mike and I raced on Friday night and I walked him. Apparently later he figured out that his n2o wasn't working when we raced, so he got it fixed and asked me to race again last night.

I obliged and we hit the road.

We headed out toward the Beltway feeder and I went WOT to check my boost since the car has been going into safety boost at the gayest times over the past month (ie street races, dyno, track). Well, as we came up to a light I told Mike that I was in safety boost so I didn't know if we should run. Then I told him that once we got on the Beltway I'd check again and I'd let him know if I was good to go. So, once we got on the feeder I went WOT and boost was strong, so as Mike pulled up I gave him the thumbs up and we went at it. Just my luck though, the car wasn't pulling hard at all through second and I glanced in third to see that the stock gauge was parked at the second mark (7psi, aka "safety boost". So at the next light I told Mike I was in safety boost that I'd get on it again and let him know if it was ready to run yet. It wasn't, and as Mike pulled up I gave him a thumbs down and shook my head but I guess he didn't see it cuz he honked 3 times and took off anyway.

So in the end, Mike beat me AGAIN and I admit it

:D

What I will NOT admit is that my car was boosting 9.5psi like it should, because it wasn't and I don't know if it was boosting right the other night either because I only look at the boost gauge when I'm losing, which I wasn't

Mike, settle down, enjoy your car. Racing, especially between friends is supposed to be fun and competitive, not just shit talking.

i appreciate you admitting to it.. it's just that.. before we ran, we both agreed to there being no more excuses. after i ran you 3 times, you tell me at the light 'oh i didnt know if i was in safety boost or not, i wasn't paying attention'.

i don't want to be an ass or anything. i'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say that you were in safety boost. the first time we ran, we went from a ~45 punch. i instantly jumped 2 cars on you. i could see your whole car in my side view mirror shifting into 3rd gear. i was still pulling, you weren't able to catch me like you did on friday night (i got fkn owned friday night). would the 2.5psi make that much of a difference? anyways, good runs. i want to see your z tear me a new asshole when you get your bc. :thumb:

safety boost is a feature of 300zxs that lowers boost and retards timing when an ecu code is thrown. right now i think kurts knock sensor is acting up so he is only running 7psi instead of 9.5 psi (stock for 300zxs).

boost cut off.. can be reset... dicconnect your battery for about 10 minutes come back to it and then race again.. or check your codes and figure out whats wrong...

He knows what the problem is, but if his comp is anything like the Dodge computers, you can reset it with the battery disconnect, but it'll throw the same code soon after you start it up, which doesn't help if youre driving out to a race spot.

Kurt, Tom tells me that its your detonation sensor that is causing your safety boost. If so then the problem is not fixed. You may be boosting properly on the boost controller but safety boost also retards your timing.

Yep, I am aware of this. I'm just going to try the resistor trick that I see on tt.net.
