o.k so i went to tweeter and asked about getting new system stuff and go for SPL, and for my car (300zx 91) they told me to go with kicker L5 10's. I want my box to be customized into the car all fiberglassed in and painted to match my car, well the quote for the box is $1,000 and installation on the (2)subs and a Kicker1200 watt amp totaled to $2600. well he garantee's that i'll win a couple of sound-offs for my class but is it worth it???????

i have a JL 500/1 amp and 2 12in JLw6v1's right, should i get rid of all this stuff to get the new stuff?

and a $1,000 seems kind-of steep for just the box, right?
(will be good for show and sound)

what should i get or change on the system i have right now?

PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!

if you are happy with your current setup keep it.. you can ask em to change the box.. why not get your gear elsewhere? and have em install it?? 1600 bux is a bit much for 2 x 10" L5s and that kicker amp.. yes.. i would say WAY too much...

i can get you prices on 2 L7's and the same amp for CHEAP im talking about beating them by a good 700 and then have akapsyco makle you a box that SLAMS

I can get the equipment from tweeter for about half of that price...and as for the box...the price is up there because you want it painted...if you vinyl wrap it it would be alot cheaper...BUT...if you want a painted box...I will build it and get it ready ...then send it to my painters....they will do a better job of paint'n than tweeter can...because they are a paint shop...

oh and as for the L7 and the L5...you would need two 1200.1 straped to push 2 L7's compared to one with L5's...

I would add a third W6 v.1 and swap amps with 1ohm stable, approx 1200-1500 watt amp. Or maybe put the ones you have in a pretty large ported box, I'm not that big a fan of the L5's or L7's, they're good for SPL but shit, for 2600 I could build a fairly nice SQ setup, COMPLETE, and all these guys are talking about is 2600 for a pair of subs? Either they're smoking some of the good shit, or they're using silk instead of fiberglass mat...

well i forgot to add they were also gonna add about 12 sq. feet of dynamat too, and 3 yr. warranty.

could i get another JL 500/1 to push 2 L7's?(cuz i already have one)
i want to go for show and SPL for now and then do a good head unit.....then the mids and highs......and later on maybe some vids(screens and stuff)

i know i could get the amp and speaker for cheaper but will i still be able to get the warranty at these other places

for bout 80 bux you can get bout 62 SQ Ft of raammat60 which is very similar to dynamat Xtreme...

Which Tweeter did you go to? I had my truck done off of I-10 and Gessner, and I like it so far. Still needs a little more work, but its plenty for me.

On your equipment....just keep what you have. There isn't anything wrong with it.

so with 2-500/1's and 2-12in L7's in a pretty bad ass box will i be able to get some good numbers and win a couple of shows? remember now all i want right now is SPL

dak4.7

Well to be honest, if I was competing in SPL only I wouldn't use the JL's, one of the strategies in SPL comps is to pick the right amp--they divide the classes based on what the amp does at 4ohm, regardless of waht impedence you are actually RUNNING the amp at. That said, with a pair of 500/1's you will be classed as using 1000 watts. At the same time, a guy with 4 amps rated at say 250 at 4ohm, but 500 at 2ohm (and is running all of them at 2ohm) will also be classed as using 1000 watts, even though he is using a total of 2000 vs. your 1000. The whole JL theme with having the same power at all imp. levels kinda becomes a retarded concept when SPL competition time comes.

Nothing wrong with those amps, just might put you at a slight disadvantage, and if all you're wanting to do is win shows, I'd find me a 1ohm stable amp. Examples might be the memphis 1000d, and DEI 1100d. They're both something around like 300-350 at 4ohm, but then around 1100 or so at 1ohm, but you are classed in either the 151-300 or 301-600 classes for those two amps, not the 1100 like you are using.

two of those hoes would BANG your L7's just make sure theyre dual 2 ohm subs so you can have the resistance at 1 ohm and you'll be in the 301-600 class... depending on vehicle and box you can pressure pretty fuckin hard with those L7's and we all know about Memphis' competition winners that use the ST-1000D,

another thing you might wanna consider is just using 1 1000 D andrunning the L7's in a series so you can 2ohm mono out of the setup until you can save up more cash to add on another 1000 D.... basically youre gonna go from 600 watts RMS to 2000 watts RMS, the first setup will put you in the 151-300 class and the latter will land you in 301-600 of USAC

I agree with what dak said.. maybe try to find an old old RF amp.. you know.. them old school ones that were all black.. haha.. else maybe check out mark anthony amps.. them things are way underrated.. and put out full power @ 1ohm i believe... hook that up with like a dual 2ohm L7 and you set..

How much can you get the biggest memphis amp for? And how low can it go as far as OHMs is concerned?

iasca events...wattage rating
usac events woofer sizes...

with the L7's you would be in a class all by yourself...and yes win trophys...I would do a 1000/1 on the subs...that way you could get them to sink better....and the 2 seater is a good car for spl...just remember to dynamat the whole car...

well now that memphis is cracking down on their wholesalers and shit i would recommend trying to find someone that works at a chain store that hasgood deals....

but memphis' Studio series amps are either 2 or 1 ohm stable depending on the model.. too many for my tired ass to list right now but you can check it on their website

the jl 1000/1...and I will see you there...I'll be in the black on black on black civic...

bubbles>>the classes in usac are numbered...but they go accord'n to the woofer size..2-10, 3-8:2-12, 3-10: 2-15, 3-12: and then they have the square woofer sizes compete'n by themselves...

hahaha i would be curious as to see what type of work they can do there, because tweeter has some bad ass installers working for them, plus all the work is guaranteed. So if you buy from one store, you have 167 or so stores that will guarantee that shit..

The equipment you have is fine. I'd just find a good installer and get it built to specs.

Oh, and the $1000 is cheap for labor. Fiberglass, paint, etc is alot of work. Go see Shreedar at the tweeter on I-10 and gessner. My truck was in horrible shape when he got it. He took care of me, and I'm sure he'll take care of you.

It's not hard to do, just takes time, if you like to get messy and high, go get you some resin and hardener and mat from home depot or a marine supply shop etc, and start playing around making odd shapes and all to get used to molds. Before you know it, you'll be making your own body kit :roflmao:

Sure. Cuz afterall, between college and working 32+ hrs a week, and items for my own vehicle, I just can't find anything to do in my spare time! :thumb:
