alright i want some nice sounding bass. i care much more about CLEAN TIGHT BASS vs. hard hitting messy bass...

so yea, whats a good sub that has really clean tight bass and hits decently hard?

also looking for good bang for buck. what's a great sub for the price?

what sort of setup should i run? 2 12's? 1 12? 2 10's?

thanks.

whatever setup i get, ill be sure to get a nice amp to power it sufficiently.

1 or 2 10's

I've had kicker, punch, id, and lightning audio subs. The ids were the smoothest imo. Too bad they were stolen. Best thing to do is go to some shops and listen for yourself because what sounds good to one person may not to someone else.

<~~~~agrees with tre',,,everyone has thier own opionion!! every speaker pretty much hits the same just to every person it has a different sound!!! all purty much sound the same untill u run em @ full volume then almoooost every speaker has a different sound to em!!! as for a "tight" sound its always better to go with 2 subs so they reinforce each other with that "tight" sound!!! it really depends on how much you wanna waste really!!!

BANDPASS DONT REALLY HELP!!! HE WANTS "TIGHT" BASS NOT DEFINED BASS!!! PLUS BANDPASSES ARE BETTER USED IN HATCHBACKS OR IN VEHICLES WITHOUT A TRUNK!!! PLUS SEALED BOXES CAN BE HEARD FROM FARTHER AWAY THEN BANDPASS BOXESS!!

He wants clean tight bass, he isn't gonna get that from a bandpass most likely

If you don't care about it being loud, then I'll say what I always say-- a pair of image dynamics IDQ12 v.2's.

what kinda car do you have?...1 12 if you have a hatch 2-10's if you have a trunk...and I would still go with a ported box...you could tune it to do high bass or tight bass as you called it...I had my port at 56 Hz which is a tight high bass...then I changed it with the box position port in back deck and the vent ports on the side of the amp rack...it came out to be about 38Hz...but I was go'n for spl...

he has a camry.

Lance, you need to tell people how much you have to spend, so they can recommend subs that are in your budget.

hay if i was you go with 2 pioneers vccs 12" they sound great in a stereo box but better in a mono box. They give you a good clean bass and got build in voice coil cooling system so you can hit hard all the time. If you was at the tues meet my friend in the white civic coupe with crome rims and Rina's Garage sticker on the front windsheld had some in his car. If you want to get some i got the hook up on them very good price. from 35-60 for each one.

What's the difference between a stereo box and a mono box???

Tre'
04-04-2003, 12:53 PM
In a stereo box the subs would have seperate air space and play left and right. In mono they would play together in the same air space.

Oh, I just call that seperate or common chambers :)

So what is it then when it'a a seperate chamber box, but the amp's running mono? A hybrid box? ;)

it all depends on your set up...I like to put the woofers in a single chamber ported box...and have the woofers as close together as possible...

I guess I wasted my money on a ported box :(

TeamShiftPoint

i was referring to ppl who use their subs more for competitions. ppl that want louder systems with alot more bass would use a ported box.

So a ported enclosure would not work for competition? :(

TeamShiftPoint
04-05-2003, 12:18 AM
huh?

you can get a louder system by porting it. for SPL you want something that makes high DBs.

would 2-12w6v2's have better spl than 2-12" alpine type r's???

you'll be surprise how well a bandpass box is for sound quality (if built right). they were used back then for theater systems. the bandpass that doesn't help are the ones you find at best buy.

PLUS BANDPASSES ARE BETTER USED IN HATCHBACKS OR IN VEHICLES WITHOUT A TRUNK!!!
care to explain how you came up with this conclusion? my guess is that you hear it from a salesman.

PLUS SEALED BOXES CAN BE HEARD FROM FARTHER AWAY THEN BANDPASS BOXESS!!

got any backup on this? according to physics..whichever is louder, that will be the one that travels further (bass).
