i'm having a problem with my a/c. it's blowing but it's not very cold.
what do i have to do to fix it? can i do it myself or do i have to bring it to a shop? if i do have to bring it to a shop, is there one on the west or northwest side of town that'll give me a good price? what price range am i looking at to fix it?

take it to a shop and get it pressure tested. you may have a slow leak somewhere. if its not very cold usually that means the freon is low.
look around for a good shop. some places overcharge for something very simple. I also think you can buy the stuff at autozone o'riely and do it yourself, but you have to know how much freon to put in.

walmart sell it.. i think its like 2 cans of r134a for like 10 bucks.. just buy that and recharge boyyyy
if the evaporator goes out then you will see some greasey stuff on your vents that mean time to replace that.. most of the time you have a small leak or it needs to be recharged

you couldn't even diagnose a brake light problem. don't even consider trying to diagnose an ac problem.

make sure is r134 on ur system, some cars come with r12, and i u mix both of them, say bye bye to a/c. if it has r12 ur going to have hell trying to finds some, since is discontinued, if u do, then do the convertion, but for that i would suggest take it to some pro and even if its low on 134 do not try to do it ur self, you might overcharge and kill the whole system, to be safe just take it to somebody that knows.

I suggest you take somewhere man. First like homie said, you have to get it pressure checked, then you might have to vacuum out your whole system, if it calls for it. Its easy if you know what your doing, if not, take it to Firestone or some shop, it shouldnt be that much

yeah dude, sure it wasn't you. either way tho, if you don't have an EPA 608 or 609 certification, you cannot give AC system advice, nor work on AC systems.

I agree, the a/c is serious, it is probably terminal. I would recommend bring it to a shop, working with high compression and pressure = no no, for amateurs.

how am i being a girl? that's not my law, i didn't make it. The EPA did. if you should call anyone a "girl" it should be them, not me. I have nothing to do with it.
power trip? if i was on a power trip, i'd just have you banned from my forums. if you want me to go on a power trip, i will tho.
but to get back to your advice, if you are so good with a/c systems, tell me why the evaporator going out would leave "greasy stuff" all over your vents? and why would the evaporator go out to begin with?

tell me why the evaporator going out would leave "greasy stuff" all over your vents? because of the oil the runs in the Ac lines and in the compressor that keeps the clutch and ac parts lubed up.
and why would the evaporator go out to begin with?[/
Because of stress points in the system that would give out at anytime, or the age of the evaporator, defective part ect. The ac system has several pound of pressure built up in the system and the smallest pin hole could cause it to give out at anytime
Well what we do here at Advantage AMG is.
1.Charge it up and see if the Ac works.
2.If the Ac works, look for the leak or leaks, by putting Dye into the system.
3.Use the UV lamp and UV.glasses so when you are looking around you can see the leak or leaks in the system.
4.If you do all that and still nothing, then most of the time then its the Evaporator that messed up. Because of step 1.. meaning you charged the system and it worked, so the problem is the evap..
sorry if i have misspelled anything in this im in a rush.

this guy told you exactly what to do it also depends how long its been that your ac hasnt been blowin cold air if it just started and its been workin all this time then chances are it is a leak.

actually, it's not usually the evaporator that goes out. it's the temp sensing bulb on the end of the evaporator that ruptures most on that side. but even that is rare. the most common parts that go out, are the compressor itself, which clogs the lines with metal shavings, and that in turn, ruptures them, a bad TXV, or a pin hole in the condensor, the inside components rarely have problems.
