idle trouble

i have an 89 lude and sometimes when im driving and have to stop or something like taht the car idle's at about 3-3500 rpm's and it just comes and goes while i drive.

is there a screw on top of the throttle body if there is then you can adjust that and it will solve your problem right there thats what mine was doin and this mechanic just adjusted that screw and i couldnt believe that was it and it hasnt done it ever again

or you could grease your throttle cable.might be hanging up sometimes

could this also make the car jerk when i put it into drive or reverse in a auto

no it isnt that what tranny do you have if you have an auto then i do to and i think that it might need some tranny fluid cause the gears probly not have enough so when you shift to drive or reverse thats why it jerks mine does it and on my moms van it feel smooth as can be but she had her tranny rebuilt.
