vacuum tubing has a leak, bad idle control valve, possibly cracked intake manifold gasket as well....

woord....where can i get a idle control valve? oh and my cars timing is off...anyone know how to time it correctly?...i changed out my head gasket and i forgot about the tdc thing but it seems like my car isnt as fast as it used to be....

-i think if you want to find out about TPS, IAC, and timing; then you ought to get a repair manual like haynes (autozone) or chilton (oreilly). it shows you how to test those thing better than ppl on here can tell you to.

where is the idle control valve located??? is it that cylinder shaped black sensor on the manifold? or is it on the throttle body?....and where can i pick one up...

is behind the intake manifold. i cleaned mine and helped some. but i need to time it.

its a good idea to clean it to get off all those carbon built up over time period.

the IAC should always be b4 the throttle plate.

the TPS is linear to the throttle plate. i dont know if you can mess w/ the TPS or not, its on for good, i think.....

on the DA integras it is after the throttle body on the back side of the intake manifold, actually on almost all honda's, especially those with the B18A or B18B it's after the throttle plate.

the port however is located before the throttle plate, internal to the throttle body.

and just because you don't know how to properly test the IAC motor, don't assume that no one else here does either. The IAC is a stepper motor, to test the electronics of it, all you can do is test the input signal (the power wire) and make sure there is continuity to ground, if all those are good but the IAC isn't working, you know that there is either a problem internal to the motor, or the system is clogged. remove the IAC and clean it thoroughly, make sure all the passages and filters are clear. then reinstall. reset the ecu by pulling the ecm and backup fuses under the hood for 30 seconds, replace, then start the car. if it still doesn't work after that, then replace the IAC.

To set the timing start the car, warm it up to operating temperature (wait until the fans kick on). Then turn it off. Locate the Diagnostic Test Connector in the passenger side footwell. It's just above the kick panel, a 2 pin connector that isn't plugged into anything. Should have a brown wire and green wire going into one side of it. On the other side of the connector place a paperclip or similar into each pole, shorting each wire together. No turn the ignition to the ON position and the check engine light should begin blinking. That's how you can be certain that you did it right. Now to to the distritbutor and loosen the 3 12mm bolts holding it on, you don't have to take them off, just loose enough for you to rotate them. now get ur timing light and find the 3 red marks on the crank pully and start the car. rotate the distributor until the center red mark is lined up with the arrow on the crank pulley. if you have a 0 degree timing light that will put you at exactly 18 degrees BTDC. right where honda suggests. if you want different, you'll have to get an adjustable timing light.

ok...i read it like 3 times and i think i can do it..but i need to go get me a timing gun...i think autozone has one...ill just use it and return it haha...where can i pick up a iac? idle air control? is that wut its called? correct me if im wrong...thanks

you can chance it with a junkyard one, or buy a new one from autozone/o'reilly or go to the dealer.

-its not that i dont know how to test for the IAC, its just that i never mess IAC on hondas, so i dont know the design of the IAC. theyre are several types IAC out there, from screw types to step-motor types(iono whats on hondas); thats why i told him to rely on a manual for testing.

-my bad joe, i the IAC is locate after the throttle in ur case, i was thinking the main idea of how the intake of the Idle air controller would be in place; 'cause the air has to be comin b4 the throttle plate to the other side to the manifold.

-i would second the IAC purchasing at a junkyard, it would be a lot cheaper. you would prolly lookin at about anywhere from 100 and up for that, at the dealer.

keep in mind tho, that those iac's are just as old as yours, and just as likely, if not more so to be bad than yours. the DA IAC's are notorious for going out.
