Car won't go any faster!

i have a 2k honda civic EX, its has all the basics and a little more. but i was goin down the beltway i nocticed something. I couldn't go past 100mph! i even hit the spray it just sits at exactly and 100 i really don't know what the problem is i retuned my v-tec contoller redid all the fuel ratios and its the same out put. If any could help me please post. Thanx :thumb:

something sounds jacked up here, my dx powered 00 civic ex can hit 120 on a regular basis without too much road...its not fast by any means but itll get there , 100 is regular highway pizza delivery speed...

Sounds like an ECU issue. What kind of vtec controller are you using? I've never known any honda/acura's to have governors.

most of foreign cars don't have governors. The way they control the speed is gear limiting. I know that my car runs out of gear at 118-121.

older ones maybe. newer ones often have a governor.

most street cars probably be stopped by wind drag before they run out of gear.

i have the same problem, i hit 110 mph in my 97 Prelude and it just stops accelarating. it happened after i got my tranny rebuilt. before i could easily reach 130 and maybe more but it took forever to get to 130. any help to answer his question might help me. :thumb:

i ve hit 140-145 in my hatch but that d16y8 trannsmissions have some long ass 3rd 4th and 5th gear... i could hit 105 in 3rd .. my car now runs outta gear at 115 ... very short gears especially 5th ... good for accelaration but no top speed ... u dont need to go any faster than 100 with that single vtec anyways lol

the speedlimiter in my 96 hx was 120mph.. and when the speed limiter hit ull notice a sudden loss or power. (hx tranny - 120 @ 4500rpm)

I can personally vouch for this seeing as how that's my job and we happen to be right next to 288 :D I don't know what my car tops out at. I hit redline in 5th gear :ugh: Speedo stops at 130, and it goes a WAYS past that.

so wait, you hit 100 mph, then your car wouldnt go past that mark. yet you sprayed? are you slow or just plain stupid? i hope you realize that if your car does have a governer it will have a fuel cut and if you spray through a fuel cut you're gonna fuck shit up.

thats weird. i reached 140+ in my 00 auto lude pretty easily. i havent tried topping out my 01 standard yet but it gets to 120 with no problems.

I didnt know the 2k ex had vtec. Its probably going to be speed limiter which is controlled by the ECU.

Car's limited at 153 in fourth or od. I'm not sure if it shuts off or just wont go anywhere.
