Alright guys, I'm seriously looking into getting this bike. My friend is selling it to me for $2500. It's a 96 GSF 600S AKA Bandit 600S. How is this bike for a beginner?

Also, to anyone who has motorcycle technical knowledge..his bike isn't currently running. Here's the scenario:
He went out of town and didn't ride his bike for a month and a half. After he came back, it ran fine for a week, week and a half. One day he was riding it home when it broke down on him. His bike wouldn't even turn over at the time. He changed the battery, but that didn't help. When you turn the key, the lights turn on but it doesn't turn over. I went to his house the other day, and he tried to start it again after MONTHS of it just sitting there. (About 8 months or so..) And this time, the bike tried to turn over, but wouldn't. Someone said that it sounds like it has bad gas.. So would changing the gas, oil change, and minor tune up fix this kinda problem, or do any of you know what else may be the problem with this bike?

the bandit bikes are GREAT beginner bikes. you'll be happy with the power, and will learn alot in a short time.

as for the starting problem. it's possible it's got bad gas. i'd also check the magneto and coil...if they get moisture in them, they usually burn out.

How hard are they to replace and cost wise, what could that run me? Or him, rather.. :D

i don't know how difficult they are to change on the bandits, but look at spending about 200-300 for new parts and a decent service manual. (i highly highly suggest one for a bike that old).

I agree with it being a great beginner bike. Very forgiving and easy to ride. I can't imagine it being too hard to fix if you do your own work. Check the starter and the electrical connections. I had a problem with the kill switch and starter button because of the rain.

I'm having second thoughts about this bike seeing as how he was supposed to take it to a mechanic and have it fixed, but turns out his dad and neighbor is fixing it. I mean, that's okay, maybe they know what they're doing, but I would have felt a lil more comfortable if it was done by a real motorcycle mechanic. And secondly, the sticker and inspection on the bike is mad old..and he's saying i gotta do it. Hell no i aint payin $2500 for that bike AND getting the licence plate and inspection done.. What do you guys think?

it's ur liability if you get caught without current sticker and plates. and it's always ur responsibility to register it into ur name when you buy the bike, the inspection, i'd try to get them to do. but don't hold ur breath.

So you're saying if the plates and inspection is expired, it's not his responsibility to do that before he sells the bike?

correct.

Well should that be a basis to negotiate the price on though?

Of course, but registration on a $2500 vehicle isn't very much.

So will the plates fall under the registration? And how much would inspection cost to get done? Its the same price as car inspection correct? Sorry for sounding dumb... :hs:
