Trying to decide on which to get. The 04 GSXR 1000 or the 04 R1. Any body rode either of these or own one. I know the R1 went with this new style. Wondering if there is any bugs they gotta work out since its new and all. Pretty much I just want your opinions on both bikes.

My friend in Austin is waiting on the first blue R1 to come in. The Gixxer hasn't changed this year that I know of. Haven't rode either one but going by looks I would have to choose the R1.. Don't know about peformance aspects yet... :thumb:
Oh, nice avatar!!!

I like the new R1 but ima a raw power junkie.....so, the suzuki would be where to go. I havent ridden either. As much as I hate to admit......for power AND handling.......1000RR is where to go.

well, both bikes are amazing. i haven't had a chance to ride the new R1, but i have ridden the 03 gixxer 1k, unchanged from 04, and it was quite fun. all the magazine comparo's are putting the R1 on top for the liter bikes. The gixxer is "old school" now. All the new bikes are faster and handle better than the gixxer. So if you're looking to get the billy bad ass bike, go with the R1, if you want a bike you can actually use, and will enjoy more, go check em all out, and find which one you like best. You can't go wrong on the performance side, they are all phenomenal machines, you should be more concerned about which one fits you best, and you like the most, for whatever reasons.

actually in most of the dyno comparo's the R1 is coming out on top by about 4hp. hell, even the 1000rr puts out 4hp more than the Gixxer does. they power of the gixxer is much harder to control tho because of the very sharp increase in power from about 8k up.

well, the raw part you hit the nail on the head....not smooth...
if you look at the dyno plot of both the 1000rr and gsxr1000 they are almost identical. kinda odd. The R1 is a nice looking machine.
now for "RAG" talk. quoting the new cycle world...
"the cbr beat the gsxr in a 40-60 roll by .2, BUT the suzuki came back and beat the cbr in the 60-80 by .3.
also the cbr weighs 23 pounds more.
the new swing arm on the back of the cbr DOES seem to help by giving the big stiffy to unwanted wheelies, so it ends up with a better 0-60.
also oddly enough, last years bike seems to put up an avg of 6hp more than this years bike, in that case, the 03 zuki, beats the new cbr in hp test.(peak anyhow)

you forgot to mention the 1000rr lapped Streets of Willow almost a full second faster, and their quote "The king is dead (GSX-R1000), long live the king (CBR1000RR)."

ooooooo I want the 04 R1 BAD!! :roflmao: Cept I know how I treat my R6 and if I did that to an R1, the R1 would hand me my ass. Im going to get more exp + $ under my belt before I get it.
As far as gixxer vs R1........ I heard + see you dont have to wear your helmet on a gixxer. So maybe the R1 has more pwr??
Both are bad ass. I prefer the R1. I think you should sit on each one and see what fits you more comfortably. The Gixxer is more bulkier while the R1 is more narrow...so see what fits you best. :thumb:

i say get the honda 1000 rr its a bad ass bike ,its beat the king of bikes (gsxr1000)already and only a matter of time before it beats the r1.besides it looks better than all the other liter bikes out there tight now . anyway good luck with your decision ,....

Yeah Ive sittin on the GSXR and it is pretty bulky, but also is comfortable too in how you sit. Havent gotten the chance on an R1, but I just love the way those bikes look. Only thing is that it looks like you lean alot towards the handle bars all the time and it looks like it wouldnt be comfortable for a long ride. Am I seeing this right or is it totally different once your on it. As for the Honda looking better than all the liter bikes I would have to disagree. That 04 R1 is one sexy bitch
to me r1, gsxr 1000, and cbr 1000 are all good bikes, when you say track wise is if cbr only beat the gsxr half a sec, then it depends on the rider. lets put a bad ass driver for the gsxr, and a bad ass drvier for the cbr and see what happens =)

Please tell me this is not going to be your first bike. With that said, being a Yamaha fan I would definately go with the R1. It should have around the same amount of power (it's all negligable anyway) and you'd have the newest model (gets outdated slower). Also I think the new R1 is cosmetically WAY more appealing.

both bikes had the same rider for that test. and .78 seconds is a HUGE margin in racing.

gixxer lap time 1:24.28 or 84.28 seconds
cbr 1000rr lap time 1:23.59 or 83.59 seconds
now break out the calculator kids...lol
84.28 - 83.59 = .69 seconds.
there are 100 hundreths in a second, not 60 hundreths.
