ATRC is produced by Gabriel and Dresden and Jes (the vocalist). Tiesto did not make this track.

Okay I am a HUGE electronic dance music fan but I hate all that cheesy breakbeat bullcrap Houston has. Here is a list of nice tracks:

Luke Chable and Danny Bonicci - Ride
Junkie XL - Breezer (Sasha Remix)
Skin - Faithfulness (Dj Tiesto remix)
Mark Otten - Tranquility
Sarah Mclachlen - Fallen (Gabriel and Dresden Anti-gravity remix)
BT vs Sasha - Remember Magnetic North (Bootleg)

Go buy the vinyls so you can support these artists. Come on, vinyls are like 6 bucks a pop. Oh yea, Remember Maganetic North is not on vinyl since it is a bootleg/mashup or whatever you may want to call it.

yeah u can. its not about the vocals or instrumentals and such but more on the types of samples used to create the sound. its complicated to get into. u would have to be an avid listener of that musik. house is more happy, funky type of musik and usually slower, while progressive trance does contain vocals but usually is darker musik and contains stronger and harder samples.

The best Trance music comes from Europe bottom line. I recommend looking up Tunnel Trance Force; I ran across this while i was bosnia and then I had to goto germany where the Techno blows up the scene. It is a series of compilations by the top european dj's. They are off the hook. They typicall come in 2 disc compilations and you can download them off the net just look around. Here is one of my favorite flash dj sites http://www.wireframe.co.za/yulia/eng.htm .... Share some good dj sites--- Always looking for something new and out of the box.

Okay I am a HUGE electronic dance music fan but I hate all that cheesy breakbeat bullcrap Houston has.

Uhmm...wtf. :ugh2: Breakbeatz in Houston is one of the weakest scenes I've seen in America. DnB seems to reign this town. Part of the reason my production company has opted not to throw a party here. If you listen to breakbeats...good breakbeats it's really good stuff. The new school breaks, progressive breaks...not half ass kids that make beats and put em in a song. True remixes by a good producer in any genre of music is good. If you look at it breaks is an electronica sub-genre that brings it to a broader audience than the typical beat of most electronica genres. Here's a good quote I found of a description of breaks just for you:

"Breakbeat is -- and always will be -- one of the most dominant forms of dance music. You can trace the movement back to the days when James Brown, Curtis Mayfield, and Isaac Hayes ruled, through the electro explosion led by Afrika Bambaataa and the Soul Sonic Force, up to the present day nu-breaks movement engineered by Adam Freeleand et al.

The early '90s rave boom in Europe was built on it, the West Coast is obsessed with it, and drum and bass (to some extent) grew out of it. Breakbeat gained popularity in the U.K. through seminal tracks like "The Phantom" by Renegade Soundwave, "Papua New Guinea" by Future Sound Of London, and later "Bombscare" by 2 Bad Mice.

In the late 90's the commercial success of bands like Fatboy Slim, Chemical Brothers, The Crystal Method, and The Prodigy has both attracted the attention of the major labels and has made the music available to a much wider audience. Many believe that it is this genre that will break electronic music in the U.S."

Broaden your horizons...narrow mindedness isn't a good thing to have in the music business. Check out Jeff Beck's who else albumn...electronica made w/ guitar. Very cool and very fun stuff. Thx for some of the track to the EG guy. Very nice music. Looking to do a remix on some of those tracks possibly.

I was referring to commercial sounding breakbeat remixes of cheesy trance tracks by the likes of Lasgo, Milk Inc, DJ sammy, etc. Remixes which are poorly produced yet still liked by the masses due to their catchy sound.

However I do agree that there are good breakbeats out there. I've been jamming Adam Freeland's EM from 5-11-03 for quite a bit and that 2 hr set showed the best of what the progressive breaks and the marine parade label have to offer. Freeland is one of breakbeat's modern pioneers along with James Zabiela. If you havn't already, I suggest Zabiela's and Sasha's Breezeblock mix.

I'm not going to deny the fact the breakbeats have helped form edm into what is it today. However, there are just a certain niche of breaks that I really don't like and a lot of Houston's people happen to like that genre of breaks. They would say Dj Sammy - Heaven (Dj Random Fancy Name breakbeat remix) is better than Hybrid - Finished symphony simply due to the fact that the Hybrid track has no vocals.

dj_Lotte
05-22-2004, 04:24 AM
Haha...the Asian sect. of breaks. I know what you're talking about. Almost made me want to quit w/ how many lil kids got into their Fruity Loops and just made some crap and tossed it together. The are a few in the crowd that stand out among the rest and have true producing skills. I'm slowly starting a home studio piece by piece. Saving up for that damn G5. :roflmao: There are the DJs who get to play in the clubs and then there are the rest. You seem like a guy that knows his stuff :thumb: , sorry to come off a little harsh. Milk Inc was in Dallas @ Liquid just a couple weeks ago. I have to admit they have talent and real skills. I'm just not a hardcore anything...I'll listen to most stuff. A lot of these people send me their samples, and the only thing I can say is, "Hey you got better." Then they get all happy and stuff. There's just a certain "fruity" sound that is what these people are going for. The video game sounding stuff irritates the crap out of me, and since those are the easiest sounds to make everyone uses em and it's flooded by all the kids that want to be cool cuz they made something, and they put out CD after CD of trash. I had like 1 gig of trash breakbeats by noob "djz" (I use the term loosely). I honestly wonder why people would want to embarrase themselve by putting CDs out far before they are ready. I've spent my time learning how to use the program rather than make songs and learn along the way. Midi keyboard helps a lot, just need to learn how to play it. :roflmao: OH well Ak1na...no offense intended. Take it easy bro, I can't type no mo...CS time...

Wouldn't that be considered "uplifting melodic trance".

More like commercial or mainstream pop culture dance.

Exactly, I bet 99% of those people listening to "Asian breaks" have no clue who Hybrid is, or what Nu Skool, Funky, or Progressive Breaks even sound like. I have respect for very few Asian Dj's that produce quality remixes, but the vast majority don't know what the hell they are doing they just throw random & immature video game sounding beats over a song using fruity loops & call themselves a Dj.

Much props to:

WTF!!!! Why didnt anyone list DJ Taucher? The High Tide Low Tide cd rocks. The "DEEPEST" of all trance. Dudes a nut. He once spun a 2 hour set hanging upside down over the tables. Much respect for that.

1) I don't know know the sub genre of Funky Breakz, but I've been listening to a lot of Nu Skool and progressive stuff for a while. A lot of labels are signing for people that can produce progressive right now. Granted a lot of kids are playing w/ FL Studio and putting out stuff way before they are ready. I haven't touched FLPs in a while, but I've been watching some of the stuff my friends have been producing and it almost makes me want to use the easy layout of Fruity Loops over Reason. I'm just taking my time learning the program, both of my friends in the crew have been producing music for about 7 years at least. I'm only in my 3rd year, but I have hopes to be able to come out with something by my 5th year sometime. It's not FLPs fault that people don't know how to use it properly and come out with these corny fruity 8 bit video game ts404 sounds. GReddy last CD was lacking, Burnz is not that great at remixing, but he use to make hella tight stuff back in the day, Babyboi's CDs just get more and more creative to me. I like him less and less, but he saves his tight mixes for the club, and has really good producting skills and knowledge. "Asian Breakbeats" aren't what these little kiddies run around talking. To me there isn't Asian Breakz, unless that how you classify these nub ass "djs". It's just about breakbeats to me. Oh well, got a 5 hour hip hop set to prepare for this weekend. Have fun DLing some good Trance. :thumb:

Uhmm...wtf. :ugh2: Breakbeatz in Houston is one of the weakest scenes I've seen in America. DnB seems to reign this town. .
