Anyone have a workout bench or station at home like bowflex?

What would you recommend?

I had a boflex knock off... it was ok at best.

I suggest just getting free weights 20-50 and a bench that can incline and decline as well as being flat. You can do almost any exercise with free weights and get a really good workout to boot.

+1, I bought an olympic bench and weights and I've done all sorts of variations of work outs with it to cover all my muscle groups. I think it's a better investment than a workout station personally.

You should get a bench with some weights and dumbbells those bowflex machine are not good for you to build muscle because with free weights you work out more things including your stabilizers. I got a bench from walmart and dumbbells and it is all i need.

You can spend like a little over $300 and get an olympic bench, and bar with 300lb's worth of weight and call it a day. Just add dumbbells if you want.

since the bowflex is cable based shouldn't it work stabalizer's as well.

I went to Sports Authority and bought an olypic bar type weight set for just under 200 bucks and then a cage/bench/pull down assembly combo from craigslist for 100 bucks. (similar to this one http://houston.craigslist.org/spo/1428744797.html ) For the money, it's pretty damn good. The only thing I wish I had was a machine that allowed me to do cable flies.http://www.1fit.net/images/products/491l.jpg

But I'm not complaining... for the money I spent, it does the job. I've never used a bowflex or machine like that type so I really don't have any basis for comparison.

I'll take all of it off your hands.

That's what i though, cause when i tried it, it wiggled all around like my arms was a new born baby cow trying to walk.

pretty good advice.

I hate having to twist off and on additional weights on my cheapo stuff @ home

no longer use them though bc of gym membership

Yeah I think there are so many things you can do without an expenisve machine.

I am going to keep the punching bag for my son he is martial arts and I think it will help him.

I am going to start rennovations and want to get a gym togther for me and him. He loves lifting with mom, he says he is going to be a bodybuilder.

How much does something like mr toolio posted run? At 37.99 for gym mebership monthly its gonna add up after to a year to close to $500 so it might be better to invest in something similar.

I cancelled my membership and bought weights for the house and I feel like itís benefitted me more. I get distracted too at the gym, makes my workout take longer and ish, plus people trying to make friends with you slow you down. Not that Iím not a nice guy but Iíd prefer for people to leave me be when I work out.

Jump roping is awesome, great cardio. I do it more often now and itís a good overall body workout.

I need to try that. I've heard weighted ones give you a pretty good workout.

Weighted ones will make your forearms and deltoids burn like no other when you aren't used to em. It's awesome though.

Gonna have to try that. Maybe get a regular one and use that for awhile and then move up to a weighted one. Maybe a punching bag too. Used to have one a long time ago but it got all worn out. I remember it was a great stress reliever.

thats a plan for the upcoming year, my own at home gym....a rack of DB's, flat bench, a bench that you can incline, decline, squat rack and pull up stand.
