Really looking into joining a MMA Gym. Mainly because I'm currently in no extra curricular activities and MMA really interests me. I was looking into Elite Mixed Martial Arts. Heard from some buddies that they teach well and its a great gym.

http://www.elite-martial-arts.com/

anyone here go to this gym or knows someone that does? There's one in NW side on 1960 near champions..thats the one I'm planning on going to if I join.

Anything i should know in particular before joining? I spoke with the main instructor there and their giving me a free trial to see if i like it.

Think it would be wise to get health insurance before joining?

I forgot the guy's name. He recognized me from one of their tourney's, offered me a few days there for free. Best work out of my life.

But if you go UH, they have a MMA club, pretty decent, cramped as hell. But its cheap!

I remember when taking karate was cool when I was like 9. Didn't think it'd make a comeback, but, here we are.

I was a purple belt. Had my katas down good.

I train at elite mma baytown and its a very good program. You learn a lot everytime you go and its a hell of a work out. Take the free days to see if you like it. I have a few of the s2k guys interested in going. As for the insurance, its good to have but the program is set up to learn and not really to go hard. You can pm me if you have any other questions. Good luck!

Just go to a cheap one. People usually quit the first month anyway. The free trial is a good way to determine if you want to be a punching bag for the others.

The instructor said that the adult class is from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM...an hour and a half doesn't really seem like much for 1 day..or am i really underestimating it?

Probably. Never been there. But my class is the same time and its a bitch. Some ppl roll for another 30 or so, but those guys are competitors.

Our jiu-jitsu class is an hour long and everyone is wasted at the end. Its intense. They are offering the free classes to try out. Take them and see if it works for you. Its not for everyone.

go to gracie barra in webster, best jiu jitsu in town, the atama open and adcc team trophies are proof, the professor, drac is an awesome guy! most gyms give you a free class, go to a few different places and decide for yourself

Just to let you know, that Elite is really expensive. :(

went to Elite Mixed Martial Arts...really liked the gym environment and the instructor was a pretty cool guy. It was a small class too which could be a good thing..getting more attention towards you instead of being lost in the crowd. The gym was well set up..

I may try one of these other gym suggestions and report back

Not really if you consider what most personal trainers charge.

you will get used to it, i go to my mma class and then do 2 BJJ classes afterwards, its all back to back at the same gym a total of 3.5 hours. Dont get me wrong, i am dead afterwards but i feel great afterwards. I also train 6 days a week, not a hardcore fighter, i just love mma and bjj and the way i feel after a great workout

Team Took offers 30 Days free don't they? And last I read from somone on here bitched about the contract Elite makes you sign, like ballys you just get your ass kicked.

It isn't bad unless you're one of those guys that go for a month and then decide not to go anymore. Also, they'll allow you to make up classes if you don't have the unlimited class plan. They are really fair and great guys. Of course I'm a little biased. :trill:
