Rick Hendrick, Chairman and CEO of Hendrick Motorsports, is the lucky owner
Generally positive reviews are already filtering in from the various outlets and the waiting list of buyers is already 14,000 long - both indicators that the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro is staged for success. Since even those on the pre-order list will be waiting up to three months to see their beloved in the flesh, GM has released a video of the delivery of the first production Camaro.
With a quick time-lapse segment of the car's build process and a factory-floor presentation to owner Rick Hendrick, Chairman and CEO of Hendrick Motorsports, the video, from GM's FastLane Blog, is a hit-and-run of new Camaro shots, including a bit of driving footage, some ceremony, and a huge crowd to see off the car marked with VIN 001.

Money says it cost GM twice as much as it would normally cost them to build that car. I can only assume they're still having trouble finding a manufacturer for their interior components, so those could have been very pricey limited production pieces made just to get this car to somebody.

I don't know if your much of a Nascar fan...
But if you had ANY idea of the success of the cars in Nascar that use his engines (Jeff Gordon, Jimmy Johnson, Tony Stewart) for examples, and you see the amount of races that they have won in the past 10 years or so between the three of them, you would understand the circle jerk going on between General Motors, and Hendrick Motorsports.
To make a long story short, I'M PRETTY DAMN SURE IT WAS GIVEN TO HIM.

actually if chevy is true to their word about selling the first camaro vin #001 at Barret Jackson's auction it went for $350k
One very passionate Camaro enthusiast at this year’s Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona, has bid $350,000 for the rights to come away with the keys to the first retail production-built 2010 Chevrolet Camaro. General Motors has confirmed that production of the rejuvenated muscle car isn’t due to start until March 16, so the winning bidder will have a couple of months to ponder over whether it was worth paying more than ten times as much as the car actually costs.
Of course, all proceeds from the sale are actually going to a charity - in this case, to the American Heart Association – and then there’s always the bragging rights to owning the vehicle with a VIN ending with #100001.
The winning bidder will be able to choose which specific model and trim they want, choosing from several colors, V6 or V8 engines, a manual or automatic transmission, and various trim packages and free-flow options.
The 2010 Camaro range kicks off with the V6-powered LS, which starts at $22,995, and tops out with the SS at $33,430 without shipping costs.
GM has previously revealed that the first cars should arrive in dealerships in time for the "spring/summer" selling season.
