4WheelsNews claims L'Automobile Magazine is reporting the schizophrenically thought-to-be-canceled rear-wheel-drive platform jointly developed between Toyota and Subaru is still on and will receive a back-from-the-dead name: 2010 Toyota Celica.
Sorry for the convoluted report on who's reporting what here, but we're going off a post on 4wheelsnews that claims Automobile Magazine L'Automobile Magazine (sorry, it was the French-fried magazine, not the Freedom-fried version!) is reporting the rear-wheel-drive platform Toyota and Subaru are jointly developing will receive the resurrected Toyota name for Toyota's version of the coupe. This would be another reversal in Celica platform history, a car that started on a rear-wheel-drive platform for the first few generations before getting a front-wheel-drive / four-wheel-drive platform and then a full-on front-wheel-only platform for the last generation. We'll have more as we get it.

Doesn't look anything like a Toyota. Looks like a Mazda with Legacy headlights.

that's what they said about the rx-8 also, let's hope it does better than that.

http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/23/report-toyota-reviving-celica-name-for-joint-subaru-rwd-car/
The last report about the on again/off again sports car being developed jointly by Toyota and Subaru was that it's on again. Today comes word from L'Automobile in France that not only is the rear-wheel-drive Toyubaru going to happen, but it will arrive bearing the Celica name sometime in 2010. If Wikipedia is to be believed, this would be the eighth generation of the Celica, which traces its roots all the way back to 1970 when it debuted in Japan as an inexpensive rear-wheel-drive sports car. Through the years it switched to front- and all-wheel drive, with the final seventh generation Celica sold from 2000 - 2005 being a strict cart puller. L'Automobile claims that Thierry Dombreval, Toyota's VP of sales and marketing in France, spilled the beans on reviving the Celica name, so we won't consider this news solid until a second source comes forward or Toyota officially confirms it, neither of which is likely to happen. So for now all you Celica fans should just sit tight and light a few candles for your cause.

That's like a consolation prize though. It handles well, but not well enough to make it have a strong aftermarket support. It's expensive to mod, and doesn't make very much power.
I love the way they look, but it was pretty disappointing for being an RX car.

I hear you on that, im not a big fan of the RX8's. I wish Mazda would have made them faster. But at least they handle good and is RWD.

Yeah, the ones I've driven really did feel solid handling wise. I think they do look good also, and people that do them right make them look phenomenal.
One thing though that I always forget about japanese cars is the interior room isn't very spacious at all normally. I always feel like the A pillar is so close to my face in the rx8. Then again in a miata I feel like the entire car is too close to my face lol. Maybe it's a mazda thing I don't know. I don't recall the evo giving me that feeling.
