Chrysler believes it’s in a better position than GM because it needs less sales to become profitable and repay its loans
If asked whether General Motors or Chrysler were in a better financial position, many of us would conclude that GM looks better. However, Chrysler's chief financial officer Ron Kolka has come out boasting that Chrysler, "on a pure-business basis," is more viable.
The reasoning behind the claims is that Chrysler needs fewer sales to become profitable and repay its federal loans, which amount to around $4 billion at the moment. GM didn't respond directly to the claims made by Kolka, instead choosing to highlight the steps that company was taking towards achieving long-term viability.
Chrysler is expecting to make a profit within the next five years if the U.S. market can sustain around 11 million new car sales per year over that same time period. However, in the wake of the current economic crisis, many commentators are predicting that auto sales could dip as low as 10 million units this year, which would put Chrysler in a tough financial position if the situation didn't improve within the next few years.
Meanwhile, Chrysler's cash position is said to be healthy, with at least $2 billion in cash on hand for, although this figure could actually be as high as $6 billion. Despite this, the company is requesting more cash, although Kolka explained to Bloomberg that more aid is only needed to ensure that Chrysler will not have any need to come back for more in the near future.
Chrysler is also undertaking negotiations with Fiat to secure a $10 billion deal that would give Chrysler easy access to Fiat's extensive knowledge of small car production. In return Chrysler would offer up a 35% stake as well as its knowledge of SUVs.

wrd, the only thing from them that i'd consider driving are their trucks
so much ignorance here.
lets not forget who makes the company with the fastest production car around the ring noobs.
ACR Dodge Viper. chrysler makes quality stuff, ive driven a 300c a few times and was pretty impressed compared to driving an impala.

Well lets also not forget where they got the 300c/charger chassis from. Its not like they would be able to engineer anything like this on their own without making the costs quite a bit higher.

Fastest car doesn't mean shit when they aren't selling very many. They still need to restructure their business, bottom line. They need less money than GM because they're a smaller company, but that doesn't mean they're not at risk of going bankrupt just the same.

Chrysler makes a few great cars...I personally think they have the best performance division out of the Big 3.

I'd rather have a ZR1 than an ACR Viper, I'd rather have a CTS-V than an SRT 300C. I'd rather have a Cobalt SS than a SRT-4 Caliber.
Hell, pretty much anything Mopar makes, I'd rather have a different domestic in every class of car. I don't even make a clear point to dodge their products, they just never add up.

Let them all burn! I like Dodge and GM products just as much as the next domestic fan. But enough is enough! At least stop trying to get full dollar for every piece of crap you sell. Do not just discount your gas hogs. I don't believe they need to fail all together but reading this is equivalent to watching a large cat drown in a small puddle. Even if you have to sell your vehicles below cost just to help with the restructuring process then do it.
And do not state your in a better place financially then another company regardless if you are. Because your product still sucks!:hsrun:

wow, i'm gonna have to disagree with you on that one. the 300/charger/magnum all felt really cheap to me. very uncomfortable too. the impala felt a hell of a lot better in every aspect. there's nothing from chrysler/dodge that i would want except of course the viper.

its just that simple. it's too easy to be profitable when you make your product out of shit.

Define "quality." I think it's subjective and the proof is in the pudding. American cars just haven't kept up in the long run, nothing very exciting except their high end cars and now it's showing. Vipers and corvettes do not make a company profitable, unfortunately.
Besides, fastest lap time doesn't mean anything to people who can't afford it.
They have a lack of concentration on the cars that make money, which are the $15-$25k cars. Top of the line cars are to give the brand appeal and attract buyers to the makers of the viper, or zr-1, not the car itself.
They just don't have that appeal, it's fun to go fast, but the fact is most buyers want amenities, comfort, and looks combined with speed. Not speed alone. This is something the caliber and cobalt don't have to most people.
As for Ford, well I just don't see why they refuse to bring over their awd version of the focus, or at least the turbo fwd =/
Oh well I guess. I know fans of the companies will defend them, nothing wrong with it, but when a company is going under things have to change and things were not optimal to begin with. A true fan would look for ways to improve a brand, not defend it's stupid decisions.

Also, that wasn't really directed at you Alf. Just putting that out there... lol
when i look at GM i see aztec, i see vibe, i see a cobalt rebadged about 3 different times. i see two pickups, from 2 different badges.
i mean did they think that was smart?
i dont see chrysler pulling that jazz.
also as far as quality its my opinion as far as the quality went, especially when i compared both vehicles. dont get me wrong i love GM, maybe i was a bit swayed by a nurburgring lap time, guilty.
because in all honesty, id rather drive a tahoe, over a durango.

aztec = pacifica

rebadged cobalt = rebaged 300/ charger/ magnum
I think GM is slightly worse at it than Chrysler, but not by much.

lol at comparing a cobalt ss to an srt-4 caliber bwahahahahahaha.
last 2 impala ss's i drove hauled ass..they were uncomfortable, and one needed a tranny at 79k miles.
and i laugh at the GMC and chevy trucks... its the same fucking truck.
worse than ford and lincoln trucks.
although i will stick with ford.. a total of 900k miles (and counting) on 3 trucks is more than enough to be happy with them

None of those comparisons make any sense. They aren't even the same class of car.

Aren't they all failomobiles?
I thought Vibe = Toyota Matrix = Toyota Corolla?

That's the only one that sort of made sense. The Aztec to Pacifica and a Cobalt being the same as the 300/Magnum was a huge fail comparison.
Indeed the Vibe, Rolla, and Matrix are the same. Same rear beam suspension, motor etc.

I think he was comparing how both of the companies have many versions of essentially the same cars. Both companies rebadge a lot of their cars.
