WASHINGTON — Chrysler has announced a second recall for its 2009 Dodge Ram 2500/3500 trucks. This time, the problem involves a faulty clutch, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Only an estimated 507 Dodge Rams are involved in the March recall. In January, 32,782 Dodge Ram 2500/3500 trucks from 2008 and 2009 were recalled for a steering problem.

In the latest glitch, the NHTSA says "the clutch pedal connecting rod to the clutch master cylinder may separate from the master cylinder. This may not allow disengagement of the clutch when the pedal is depressed, which could result in unintended vehicle movement. Increased stopping distance and engine stalling will occur, increasing the risk of a crash."

Dodge dealers will replace the clutch master cylinder hydraulic system at no charge. The recall will begin sometime in March. Owners may contact Chrysler at 800-853-1403.

In documents filed with NHTSA, Chrysler said the Ram's clutch problem was discovered in January at the automaker's Chelsea, Michigan, proving ground when a 2010 Dodge Ram test vehicle with a manual transmission and power adjustable pedals experienced an "inoperative clutch." The automaker said it has received only one report from a customer "which appeared to indicate this condition." There have been no injuries or fatalities connected to this latest Ram recall.

Inside Line says: If you own one of the aforementioned Dodge Ram trucks, you should have it checked out ASAP with your dealer.
