The new vehicle is expected to be unveiled at the New York Auto Show next month
Already spied in testing on the Nurburgring wearing heavy camouflage, a new Acura vehicle is in the works, and it's a crossover. The 'concept' version of the vehicle is now being teased ahead of its expected debut at the New York Auto Show in just a few weeks.
The vehicle looks to be a bit like an Acura take on the BMW X6 sports activity vehicle concept, with a very similar roofline and an apparent four-door configuration. The latest round of teasers, leaked through the AcuraZine forums, includes five angles of the new vehicle. Edmunds is now reporting that the upcoming vehicle will be called the MSX and will arrive in production trim next year as a 2011 model.
The MSX will be based on the current MDX SUV, though it’s expected to be fitted with a more powerful version of Acura’s 300hp (225kW) 3.7L V6 as well as new six-speed automatic transmission. Positioning and pricing will also be higher than the MDX, which means you can expect to be paying between $42,000 and $49,000 for the new model.
Acura appears to have believed BMW was onto a winning formula with the controversially styled X6. It’s well documented that the upmarket Honda division wants to be a ‘tier 1’ luxury brand but we’re not sure if copying such a niche vehicle is the way to go.
