The LS9 is the 6.2L supercharged V8 that helps carry the ZR1 to a top speed in excess of 200mph

GM Performance Parts offers some very interesting gear for the go-fast racer or modifier, including whole engines available for whatever project one can come up with. The GM division is now offering its ultimate package: the LS9 supercharged V8 from the heart of the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 supercar.

The company's LS-series of engines is already a huge favorite with folks that like to swap the light-but-powerful V8s into everything from early Mazda RX-7s to BMWs and more, but the LS9 with its 638hp (476kW) and 604lb-ft (819Nm) of torque will add a whole new dimension of possibilities.

While the full kit of carbon-ceramic brakes, carbon fiber body parts and other bits and pieces that distinguish the ZR1 from a standard Z06 Corvette aren't as easily found, the LS9 engine swap would make a worthy compromise.

The supercharged 6.2L V8 engine is available for order through most GM dealers and is priced at 21,000. Its part number is ‘19201990’ and its official output rating stands at 630hp (470kW) and 600lb-ft (812Nm) of torque, although final numbers may vary based on installation and vehicle packaging.

The new package is supported by GM Performance Parts standard crate engine warranty of 24 months/50,000 miles. Additionally, GM Performance Parts also plans to offer a LS9 controller kit and front accessory drive kit to assist in vehicle installation of the mighty mill. The basic crate engine, however, comes fully dressed, including the ignition system, supercharger assembly, exhaust manifolds and more. It also includes the production dry-sump oil pan and provisions for the charge cooler's liquid cooling system. Builders will need an external oil tank, external coolant tank (for the charge cooler) and an ECU/wire harness.
