The Corvette Stingray Concept is at this point a pure design exercise

Today General Motors revealed details on the upcoming Chevrolet-branded Autobots "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" movie. Making their debuts at the 2009 Chicago Auto Show are Bumblebee, a Camaro-based Autobot, Sideswipe (Corvette Stingray Concept) and Skids/Mudflap (Chevy Beat concept).

The Corvette Stingray concept is at this point solely a design exercise, not foreshadowing a production vehicle, though talk of the upcoming C7 Corvette has been circulating for some time. The Beat concept filling the role of the twin Skids and Mudflap robots is already headed to production as the 2011 Chevy Spark. The Chevrolet Volt will also be joining the cast as Jolt.

"Chevrolet is thrilled to again be part of one of the most anticipated movies in years," said Ed Peper, GM North America vice president, Chevrolet. "'Transformers' gives us a great opportunity to connect with young people on their terms, with a dynamic, environmentally friendly image. The new characters represent the change going on in Chevy showrooms. From the exciting Camaro, the 21st century sports car, to the game-changing Volt, there’s more than meets the eye at Chevrolet today."

The overall idea of the Stingray Concept was to incorporate past design cues in a fully futuristic shape. Speaking specifically about the Corvette concept, Ed Welburn, vice president of GM Global Design, said, "By giving my creative team the freedom to design no-holds-barred vision concepts, it helps them push boundaries and look at projects from different perspectives."

The Stingray Concept has been spotted before, on the set of the Transformer's movie, and at the time was thought to be a Corvette Centennial Design Concept.

meh it looks ok but i think the rear doesn't look like a corvette. I love the split rear window. The top view i think is the best.

Amazing.

Unique small headlights on the fenders.

Design that leads air it seems to be directed towards brakes, assuming.

Stingray emblem very sleek and modern.

Rear view mirrors couldn't be any more useless yet slice threw air like a knife.

Grill could be improved to remove "braces" like appearance.

Reflection picture is nifty.

You mean like every other car maker in the world right?

How many variations of the GT-R do we really need, or Civics, Evolutions, M3's, etc.

GM said that the concept for the movie in no way would ever make production, it was only created for the movie
