The Diamondback Viper features a carbon-fiber body and a McLaren-tuned V10 engine

A one-of-a-kind Dodge Viper tuned by McLaren has been put up for sale, with an asking price that comes close to $295,000. Known as the ASC Diamondback Viper, the car was first unveiled by American Specialty Cars (ASC) back at the 2006 Detroit Auto Show featuring a bevy of performance modifications designed to increase the power-to-weight ratio of the car.

Following this goal, reducing weight and increasing power were to the two major focuses of ASC and the American-based McLaren Performance Technologies (the performance workshop was started by the Bruce McLaren behind the F1 team). When ASC was eventually satisfied with the car, the 615hp (459kW) Diamondback Viper ended up with a carbon-fiber roof, as well as a carbon deck lid, rockers, fascia inserts, body trim and a massive carbon hood that shows off ten unique trumpeted air intakes with their individual port throttles peeking through— a throwback to McLaren Can-Am engines of the past.

ASC's effort to lighten the car resulted in weight savings of around 85 lbs, helping to catapult it to 60mph in just 3.5 seconds. While the current generation of Dodge Viper models will hit 60mph in a similar time, the 2006 model on which the Diamondback Viper is based took closer to 4 seconds, meaning that McLaren and ASC managed to improve sprint time by almost 13%.

Apart from being a unique, one-off Dodge Viper special tuned by McLaren, the Diamondback Viper has other unique characteristics that should help a potential buyer justify the extravagant price. The custom paintjob sees the car decked out in Arctic White, with 'Viper Blue' and 'McLaren Red' pinstripes.

While the asking price may seem a little steep, the concept reportedly cost ASC around $750,000 to create and it has only done 55 miles since it was built - resulting in depreciation of around $8,180 for every mile it has been driven. Head over to Dodge Vipers for Sale for all the details.

the ITBs look cheap being all wompus like they are.

had they lined them all up straight it would have looked better or just hidden it under the hood if it was all goofy.

Pretty interesting car.

Not sure why they went with ITBs on a motor that's only making 15 extra HP over a regular Viper. I could've found 700hp out of the motor blind folded and carrying a baby. But obviously it's about power to weight and not max power, so cool car nevertheless. I'm sure the ITBs give it a better power-band anyways.

Ever tried to tune an ITB car? For the power gains its a little odd on this car and seems more like an aesthetic thing. McLaren has done tons of ITB V10s for F1 and they're probably just paying homage to themselves. And the difference in the poweband isnt going to be very significant considering that it's already an 8 L v10 that makes massive power under the curve. I was just making sure it didn't sound like I disliked the car you dumbass. The fact is, I think it's silly that they put ITBs on this car, but I still like the basic idea.

I know its hard for you to carry on a conversation about cars--because you apparently know nothing about them--but you could at least try to stop pestering everyone so much. I think your troll-tastic nature would be most appreciated in the Ramblings section where your lack of car knowledge wouldn't be so glaring, and you could fit right in and not feel so left out.

As an aside, the Viper ACR would rape this car.

Interesting. It seems that you are trying too hard to make people think you know what you are talking about half of the time. I'm pretty sure that the majority of people who post in this section would consider you more of a troll than me. Why bother posting that at all if you're just going to contradict yourself in your very next post? Also, you could have pointed out another couple of obvious reasons why ITB's would be used in this vehicle, but I'm sure you already know since you're so smart.

he is smart, because he "runs 13 websites on his own." but for some awesome reason, he keeps gracing us with his wisdom over here. probably got ran out of his own websites by other people who he annoys...

That's 15hp over a current 600hp SRT-10, and 115hp over the 2006 model that the Diamondback is based on.

Any lesser being who actually read the article would catch it, anyway. :hsugh:

I actually remember the Diamondback being posted a couple years back. At the time, I thought that it was McLaren of Surrey, UK(responsible for the F1 and the SLR) and had gotten very excited. I'm not familiar with this US-based McLaren, but it looks like they still did a very good job with this car.

You made a comment about website traffic, and I asked to see what sites you've made that bring in any traffic. Where are they? :hsugh:

As for the 500hp Viper, oh well. I'm no Viper expert, I thought the 600hp models came out in 06. I remember even having discussions at the time about the Z06 vs the new 600hp viper. Oh welllllll. I'd still take an ACR.

never cared to make one of my own, but i've been helping mod this one since we've had less than 5,000 members. other than that, i don't care. start listing yours, i bet most people on here haven't heard of any of them...

Never cared to make one of your own? Can't make one of your own sounds more reasonable.

And my sites have nothing to do with cars, so I'm sure none of you have heard of them. I average 10-20,000 uniques a month and thats fine for me.

Here are the two websites that do have something to do with cars:
www.senbou.com (not finished)
www.tdcmagazine.com (i don't update it anymore, but it still gets over 300 hits a day).

thanks for verifying my claim. and i'm not sure that i'd be able to argue that i can make a website, since i've never cared to try... :dunno:
