The era of epic supercars is certainly not over at Aston Martin, following the recent release of an official teaser for a new flagship model codenamed the ‘One-77’ that’s set to enter production in an extremely exclusive run of just 77 cars. Although it appears the car has come out of nowhere, Aston’s engineers and design team have been furiously tooling away at the new model for more than 15 months and expect to have it ready by the end of next year.
The price tag is expected to be around £1.2 million ($2.25 million), putting it above exotics like the Bugatti Veyron and Koenigsegg CCX. However, its limited availability and bespoke qualities should guarantee each unit is sold.
The teaser shows a distinctly Aston Martin design, but with an added aggressiveness that even the company’s racing models lack. Side strakes and character lines on the hood plus an indentation above the rear fenders combine to give it a decidedly fast look, even while standing still.
The only official details released thus far are that it will feature a sophisticated carbon-fiber chassis with a handcrafted aluminum body and a 7.0L V12 powerplant. The final kerb weight should fall below 1,800kg.
The One-77 is expected to be based around a heavily modified version of the current vertical horizontal (VH) platform. In keeping with the ‘7’ theme of the car, power is rumored to be up around the 700hp (522kW) mark, ensuring it becomes the fastest production Aston in history. Expect to see 0-60mph (96km/h) runs of 3.5 seconds and a top speed in excess of 200mph (320km/h).
Speaking with AutoExpress, a spokesman for Aston Martin explained that an extensive customization program will ensure that no two models are the same. Buyers will be able to customize every single part of the car, from the gearbox to the interior trim elements. Even the seats will be tailored to fit the driver and passenger’s individual curves. The spokesman also confirmed that a concept version will be shown to a select group of customers by the end of the year, with the finished version ready by the end of next year.
