It's been over 60 years since the Americans have so thoroughly trounced the Germans, but Inside Line has the numbers to prove it. The Edmunds news service had a chance to take the new Cadillac CTS-V (which we're driving in upstart New York as we speak) and its supercharged V8 for a spin around GM's Milford proving grounds and brought along its testing gear. The resulting bombardment ought to have the Germans thoroughly embarrassed and rebuilding for decades to come.

The CTS-V ran the quarter-mile in a scant 12.5 seconds, besting the 12.7 it takes for either the BMW M5 or the Mercedes E63 AMG. Getting back to a standstill was another hit to the Bimmer and the Benz, with the Caddy stopping from 60-0 mph in 109 feet – five feet less than it takes the M5 and six shorter than the AMG. And if you're thinking that brakes and power are easy to upgrade and that the Cadillac couldn't possibly best the Germans on the handling course, think again: the CTS-V ran the slalom at 71.1 mph, while the M5 and E63 ran it in 68.5 and 65 mph respectively.

Don't think they needed to edge up the nose so much, but thats alot of car to be moving so fast.

Gonna end up with a big white collar autobahn on 290 here soon.

I can't imagine the annoying threads this car will generate when a 4 door GTR is released.

I was just about to ask that. If they are selling it with that brace, the racing seats and harnesses, that is one thing, but if not, then I wonder how the numbers would be in the actual production trim....

The Silver one is just the car that did the Nurburgring lap, and it needed the extra safety equipment for the 160mph turns.

They had two other cars on hand:
http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/06/cts-v-preview-1280-02.jpg

Obviously the other two cars had no such safety equipment:
http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/06/cts-v-preview-1280-14.jpg

One of the reasons they brought out the Nurburgring car was to prove that it wasn't a ringer and they ran it side by side the other two cars. They also didn't mind beating on a little bit more then the other two cars, since it's never going to end up for sale somewhere.

PS, TEAM AMERICA FUCK YEAH!

I will be honest and say that I am more than a little tickled that an American company (GM) is beating up on the reigning supercar and luxury car champs with the introduction of the ZR1 and CTS-V respectively. Hopefully Jeremy Clarkson will give us some credit now.

Why you even going there? lol. Let just ignore it until it happens.

Then there will be the "well this is the CTS-V, so compare the GTR to the CTS and the GTR V-Spec to the CTS-V." blah blah :hsrun:.

Actually I saw a Top Gear where he liked the CTS-V i thought...let me see.

I wonder how it would do with exhaust, a pulley, a programmer, and an air filter?

anyone think over 650+ hp?

top gear is good for entertainment value, I wouldn't give them credit beyond that. and the bars in the back seem to be there only for restraints to be used in line with the racing seats, so I doubt they contribute to the stability of the chassis much or any at all. Good car, but I'd like to see the real price tag.

that edmunds video is effin annoying. what does he emphasize his "f" so much.

While that's true, you do sort of a have to value the opinion of a man (Clarkson) that's driven nearly every interesting car made (be it a super car or not) over the past 20 years.

Sometimes he might say a few things that aren't technically accurate just for a few laughs, but other then that he's usually pretty insightful in his reviews. Most importantly though, Clarkson is always very honest about the car, even if he owns one himself. He'll note every bad thing about the car just as thoroughly as he'll note ever good thing about the car. Car journalists over here tend to focus on one or the other, while applying as much sugar coating in the process as possible.

Lastly, he's very humanistic in his reviews in that he'll probably recommend a car that gave him the most thrills and laughs over a car that's technically superior or more reliable. Just the same as most people tend to buy cars based on their personal taste and not which one is actually the better car.

He isn't afraid of saying something that might bother a manufacturer as most car journalists are. That is what makes him more interesting for me to watch as I know that if there is a problem with a car, that it will be pointed out.
