Volkswagen will be revealing the next-generation version of the Golf GTI, one of the most acclaimed hot hatches on the market, in October, just in time for the Paris Motor Show. A slight boost in power and a modestly redesigned appearance are expected to give the GTI a fresh look while leaving enough intact of the outgoing model for fans to be comfortable with the new car.

The Mark VI Golf platform is the basis for the GTI update and, like its more everyday companions, the GTI is an evolutionary step forward, not overly different to its predecessor. Reports suggest the new car will be powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine good for 210hp (157kW).

That would mean the new GTI gains a bit (10hp/7kw) over the old model while still leaving enough room for the even more potent but as-yet unannounced replacement for the R32. The new GTI is expected to sport a new engine featuring Audi-developed variable valve timing, which will provide the boost in power while also reducing fuel consumption.

As these first spy shots reveal, Volkswagen will be fitting the new model with a large black grille up front. In the rear, the Mk 6 GTI will also get twin tailpipes but this time they will be separated. Stopping power is expected to be greatly improved with the addition of large brakes, potentially from famed brake company Brembo. Other exterior appointments are expected to include standard 18-inch (with optional 19-inch alloy wheels) and LED daytime running lights.

my wife has convinced me that we need the versatility of a compact wagon. I will probably be leasing one of these next year. key word is "lease".

The corrado was the successor of the Scirocco which they are making again.

I like it. I like the handles, headlights and the normal lines of the car. Very sleek.
