Nissan's plans for an affordable, rear-wheel-drive coupe to slot in below the current Z have been rumored for years and we've been informed that internal politics have killed off at least one revival of an iconic Datsun. If work ever gets underway on another budget coupe, Nissan should seriously pursue Polish designer Iacoski and his interpretation of a 240Z/Fairlady revival.
Aft of the a-pillar, Iacoski's inspiration is clearly apparent, blending the old 240's slopping roofline and short rear overhangs with the muscular haunches and angled fender flares of the current 350Z. Up front, the Photoshop wizard retained the old Fairlady's elongated hood and power bulge, and matched them with a front air dam, bumper and headlamp arrangement influenced by the second GTR Proto concept.
We're totally smitten and think you'll be equally entertained when you check out the gallery of images below.

lose the hideous side vents and the odd "spike" behind headlamps, then you got one hell of a neat design :) i would actually take out a note on such a car.

Not so much.
It looks to me like the natural progression of what the 240z should look like.

Nice overall shape, but they're trying too hard to make the nose look like the GT-R. It definitely needs more Z-influence up front.
A modern version of the 240ZG's snout would be perfect.

they need to stay away from the evoX/R35 type front end and the weird head lights, and then would be ok to drive......as long as it doesnt get the God forsaken QR25.

never will happen, nose is too long for any current powerplant mill they make, wasted space.
and i don't see them throwing in an inline 6 just to make it all fit right.
besides, no sugar scoops or at least an attempt at them... you lose one of the most defining characteristics of the car.

enough space for a 5 mph bumper and additional crumple zoneage :thumb: Engineers can cram a secondary firewall in there to house ABS components, airbag electronics, fluid reservoirs. I'll even throw my penis in there to bridge the gap.

Actually the nose length is perfect for them to keep the engine between the axles and make a near perfect weight distribution. I would think that the bigger question is what transmission are they going to use...

Your missing my point, they won't put that much over hang of nose, on a car that won't see an engine to fill it. They won't produce it with an inline 6, if the stars ever aligned and it went into production, it would see either the standard 60 degree v6 mills currently in use, or a inline 4 cylinder.
Both of which you are absolutely right, they would sit squarely behind the front wheels producing a good CG area.
But as it's been shown with other production cars, when this happens, they don't leave room up front for shits and giggles, they lob the nose off and make it shorter. You can look to the S2000 for recent proof of that. Hell they even went overkill on the airbox for that car just to eat up some space to boot.
This car is a throw back "concept" to a car that had a long nose borrowed from the Jaguar E-type, which had a inline 8 cylinder engine. The original Z had an inline 6 cylinder engine, that is why those cars had long noses.
That car, in todays production enviroment, would never get past the bean counters with all that extra nose room doing nothing, and there is no way they will put an engine in it that warrants the space.
Make sense?

Thats the first thing that came to mind. Almost looks like an S2k with a GTR front-end conversion. If you really check out the rear though, thats where you can see its uniqueness.
Overall, the car looks awesome. Well, i mean, they will have to change the headlights a bit.

I still fail to see where this will fit in Nissan's line up.
GTR - High end sports car
350z - Mid range sportscar
350z convert - Mid range Roadster
"240 concept" - They could place it here, but wouldn't that steal away from potential 350 sales?
Maxima Coupe - Cheap Sporty fam car

y ea i would take this over a miata anyday. it would be competing with the solstice, sky, miata, etc but if nissan could produce this similar to the design with a TC 4cyl or a NA V6 making about 250-300hp and aggressive gearing i would buy one. in a heartbeat and im not just saying that.
it would make a great daily driver/backup track car.

Yeah, but they'd have to give it a shitty engine/suspension so it doesn't out perform the 350. Its plausible, but i doubt anyone will see it as what they want it to become. A super powerful roadster. I dunno, its just really hard seeing this hit production....maybe is just me.

Well with the 370Z coming out, I think that giving the car around 240-260 hp and a 2800lb curb weight would give it decent performance without getting too close to the Z. Maybe a destroked, direct injection version of the VQ to meet future emissions and CAFE requirements.

The 'Fairlady Z' is the xxxZ car as we know it. If this design study were to become a reality, it would be the next Fairlady Z, or 370Z in our case.
