The Alcoa forged wheels on the SRT-8 models seriously weigh almost 30 pounds a piece. Dropping down to a set of 19x9.5's on most dodge forums drops roughly about 35-45lbs rotating mass and allows the car to actually run a 285-295 tire in the back dropping ET's 1.2 or even more, with no exaggeration. The biggest power adder to an srt-8 is a set of rims and sticky tires.
Awesome, right?

I'm sure it'd make a difference but stock, it's a pretty lame car given the segment/price/hype. I'd rather buy a new loaded Mustang GT for like $24k after nego.

103 in that test. individuals stock as a rock have gone 13.0-12.9 with it up to 108-110 mph. takes playing with tire pressures and things but it can be lowered.
not to defend this wretched piece of crap, but still. plus with a heavy car the hardest part is getting it rolling, once its rolling its easier to accel faster.

Just for fun, what are LS1 F-body/3valve GT's/LS2 GTO guys running stock after playing with tire pressure? I had a roomate nailing 13 flat with a stock 01 TA. I can't remember his trap though. I want to say like 106-108mph.

Maybe. I think they mention that the Charger SRT-8 was faster in the article.
It's still a good prediction of what the average driver, with an average SRT-8 is going to run in average conditions.
My big gripe with this car, if it isn't evident by my line of questioning, is what does the Challenger SRT-8 offer at its superior price, that a current "muscle car" doesn't? Dantheman confirmed my suspicions that the Challenger SRT-8 is still in the realm of mortal muscle cars that cost significantly less. Even if the SRT-8 banged out a 13 flat, I'd still be disapointed, as the last generation of muscle cars barely making 300hp were doing it almost a decade ago.

meh i was just pointing it out. yelling out "srt8 challengers only do 14s" is pretty biased. Even you mention that "average drivers" wouldn't be making 13s passes. So why do you rave on the last gen muscle cars. Average drivers on those weren't hitting 13s flat.
R&T got a 13.3
MT got a 13.1
Still havent seen a time from an outside source tinkering with a stock one.
Seems more like you just wanted to find the worst possible scenario so you could poke fun at the car.

In a previous post I said even if the car hit 13 flats I'd still think it sucks. Let's turn this around. If the Challenger SRT-8, with it's 425HP was running 13 flats, and we assumed all the other cars I mentioned, at best, only ran 13.5's with only 300HP, I'd still think the Challenger is a TERRIBLE performance value.

lets assume for a minute that all 3 cars looked identical but with different badges on the front, because after all we arent talking about what you like, or what i like, or what replica likes. we are talking about their performance.
now im taking the camaro out because we dont have any published numbers yet.
so we are just doing the Fbody vs Challenger vs Mustang Bullitt vs gto

im not arguing that its slow. it obviously is. but taking into consideration.. how much room is in the car? how wide is the car? how heavy is the car?
how does it handle on a real track, not just the drag strip?
maybe it handles decent on a road course, they have to do something to make up for the vipers lack of turning.
and did it get a dyno run? how much power is it actually making..or rather losing?
and when did the 6 speed come out to even make a drag time? cuz i havent seen one

I just feel that you'd be buying a lesser car. SRT versions offer more in terms of interior trim, features, etc than a Mustang GT.
I think this Challenger offers more purity than many of the retro muscle cars that have been popping up everywhere.
My biggest complaint is that the SRT doesn't come in a manual. I will be buying a 5.7 because of this.
Only opinions. As I've said before, there is more to a car than it's 1/4 mile time. A better set of tires would be a relatively cheap and very effective way of correcting it's handling.
