It won’t power a Dino - the car is completely off the table - but a turbocharged V6 might power one of the next-generation cars from Ferrari. A company spokesman has said that Ferrari has ruled out nothing in terms of technology as it works to keep high-performance a priority while accommodating strict emissions rules.
Already the company has begun to employ some small technological tools to keep power up while reducing fuel consumption. The recently released California uses the company’s first direct-injection engine, for example. As the company moves forward with the next generation of engines, focusing on the development period from 2013 to 2016, it is open to the possibility of using a turbocharger or other forced-induction methods to yield the power it wants and the economy it must, reports AutoTelegraaf.
If the Prancing Horse marque does end up with a smaller-displacement forced-induction engine, it won’t be powering anything that might be considered ‘entry level’, however. Nor will the company bend to the pressure to become a full-line manufacturer with the addition of an SUV or four-door car - Davide Kluzer, Ferrari spokesman, has said those two types of car “we will never do.”

Reminds me of an elise sort of, honestly I dont like it. Its cool Ferraris is aiming towards the whole gas saving idea and what not but driving a Ferrari makes an obvious statement that if you can afford a car like this, chance are fuel cost aren't affecting you. Bad idea imo

Well Ferrari obviously knows people who can afford their cars can give a shit about gas prices, don't you think they know that.

Just a practice porsche has been doing for years :) and don't forget gas is still alot more expensive in most countries than it is here. A Ferrari is going to sell it self either way.

yea that
It might benefit them to go with a smaller engine to save weight but I agree that people who can afford a Ferrari can usually afford the gasoline it is expected to guzzle.

You guys also aren't aware that in some of these european countries, manufacturers are being billed alot of $ to produce cars that don't meet certain standards, which in this case concerns fuel. This is the main reason Porsche wants a 50+ % stake in Volkswagen, because VW's get great gas mileage, and by owning them, it would bring down porsche's average mpg's, which would result in less taxes for them.
Not only that, but just because someone can afford to pay 8 mpg or whatever, doesn't mean they want to spend the time constantly refueling. As the show Top gear has pointed out, a Porsche is a more ideal car because it can be used to drive around town comfortably while having enormous horsepower, while a Ferrari does not have those qualities besides the power. By eliminating the need to constantly fill-up, the Ferrari becomes a more practical car for every-day use.

I agree with Porsche being more practical than a Ferrari but seriously that looks like a 150k+ Lotus elise. NOt that I have the money, but if I did, I would definately pass. Hope ferrari changes that look drastically.

Where are all the dingbats from the last thread arguing with me that fuel consumption in sports cars doesn't matter? Ferrari obviously thinks it does.

people who buy those cars dont care about gas saving..and can obviously afford the gas...just make a bigger gas tank to hold more gas so u dont go 5 mins down the street and need a refuel..
which is pretty much why the bogattie (sp) is pointless if you can only drive 12 mins without burning all the fuel..

Ferrari tried this years ago but owners got so pissed and threatened to abandon them. If remember correctly the beef was about keeping the car NA only.

Jeebus, I don't think you understand the point of this thread. It has nothing to do with the California at all. That car is already going to be produced, the picture was put up because it was meant as an example of what kind of car the supposed turbo v6 would go into.
