Following the release of the updated 911 Carrera and Carrera S comes new details of the 2009 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S models. Launched simultaneously in both coupe and cabrio guises, the pair of AWD sport models receive the same series of styling and drivetrain upgrades announced for the regular RWD models several weeks ago.

Highlighting the 2009 model year facelift is the introduction of a seven-speed Porsche Doppel Kupplung (PDK) dual-clutch gearbox as well as direct injection technology, which boosts performance and saves fuel. Output of the 3.6L engine in the Carrera 4 is up by 20hp (15kW) to 345hp (254kW), and when equipped with the PDK fuel consumption equates to 23.3mpg (10.1L/100km).

The improvements on the 911 Carrera 4S with its 3.8L power unit are equally significant, with maximum output up by 30hp (22kW) to 385hp (283kW) and overall fuel consumption down in the case of Carrera 4S Cabriolet with PDK to 22mpg (10.7L/100 km).

In the new generation of the Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S, the electronically controlled PTM Porsche Traction Management replaces the former viscous multiple-plate clutch AWD. Styling changes consist of new lights with LED treatments, including daytime running lights, as well as slightly revised bumpers. Oh gosh... that beetle comment ruined the 911 for me for ever... I see it too

I can barely tell the difference between this and last years one (besides the back end). Still looks good to me... gotta love how wide the rear is.

LOL if you folks new the heritage of the 911, you wouldn't be shocked at kinda looking like a beetle.

I think the new design is very subdued and classy. It has nice smooth flowing lines but doesn't wonder to far from its original styling.

Me likie.
