When Chevrolet officially announced the new Corvette ZR1 just before the Detroit Auto Show this year, it hadn't yet finished the certification of its new power-plant, the supercharged LS9. At that time, all the engineers would tell us was that the supercharged 6.2L V8 would produce a minimum of 100hp/L or 620 hp. Three months have passed since we got our first official look at the LS9 and the numbers are now in. According to GM, the LS9 has now been SAE Certified at 638 hp and 604 lb-ft of twist. The official EPA fuel economy testing hasn't been finished and for people who buy a ZR1 it probably won't matter anyway. Nonetheless, GM expects the LS9 to be the most fuel efficient 600+hp engine in the world, a dubious distinction if ever there was one. A special team of technicians will be hand-building and testing the LS9 at GM's Performance Build Center in Wixom, Mich.
Here is a vid of it doing 205mph...

Sorry, I forgot to post the other part of the story on another website.

The official dyno numbers are in: The supercharged 6.2-liter V8 in the forthcoming Chevy Corvette ZR1 cranks out 638 horsepower.
That's about 20 hp more than the estimates from General Motors' powertrain gurus when they unveiled the new ZR1 and its monster motor last December.
To simplify the math: The LS9 engine in the ZR1 is rated at 103 hp per liter of displacement, or 1.7 hp per cubic inch (6.2 liters is equal to 376 cubic inches, for the old schoolers in the audience.)
All that power will push the Corvette ZR1, which goes on sale this summer, to a top speed of more than 200 mph, GM says. A suggested retail price for the car hasn't been set, but it is expected to be in the neighborhood of $100,000.
What about the grunt? The official number is 604 lb-ft of torque.
The key to that making all the horsepower and torque is a Roots-type supercharger with four-lobe rotors that sits atop the LS9 engine. A liquid-to-air intercooler is integrated into the supercharger's housing.
The supercharger has a volume of 2.3 liters, with a maximum boost pressure of 10.5 psi. Turning that blower required engineers to fit the LS9 with an 11-rib accessory drive belt.
The engine will be hand-built at GM's Performance Build Center in suburban Detroit, the same plant that hand-builds the LS7 V8 used in the Corvette Z06.

watch it get better mpg than the prius.
edit: but 103hp per liter is not all that impressive, a k20 does not need a supercharger to get that kind of performance.
my car gets over 300hp per liter ;)
lol, what?
505hp=198mph, but an extra 133 ponies only gets you 7 mph it doesnt make sense. The 599 has a claimed 205mph top speed but does so with 620, the LP640 has a 211 claimed top speed. I mean shit even the Ford GT is a 205 mph car

hp/L is something for stupid ricers to jerk themselves off over. It's utterly devoid of value. When you actually drive cars, you find out that high specific output engines have very little power at low RPM. This makes for annoying driving around town, burned clutches, and very tiring driving on back roads, as you frantically shift to keep the engine in its powerband. On a race track, you build the engine per the rules, and squeeze as much out of the displacement limit as you can. You then gear the car to keep it in the powerband. Since this is a car meant to be driven on the street, there is no need to have a peaky high strung engine. The engineers have the luxury of using plenty of displacement to build an engine that has power (and in this case, lots and lots) at any engine speed.

The faster you go - the more HP you need to cut throught the wind at that rate of speed.

thats true and they might make some changes but its going to be released in the summer so it might not change that much

ok dumb fuck i know that shit, the veryon only needs like 300 hp to get to 150 but it needs 700 more to get the extra 100 mph. What i am saying is that there are cars with the same amount of hp or less that are as fast or faster. Explain then how the CGT has a 205 top end with 605 hp

Gearing is also a major factor, and the car you mentioned the (GT Speed) is gear very tall (ex. 0-60 4.0sec;1/4mi 12.5@113.4 ). Besides that just think of how long it'll take to get that car to 202 vs say a lambo, ferrari or a zr1.
Info from:http://www.roadandtrack.com/article.asp?section_id=3&article_id=6588
it wouldnt take that long i would say around a minute, 2 minutes tops or so if you were on the nardo track, or VWs Ehra-Lessien.

It peaked at 208mph, but for it to be "verified" it has to run the speed in both directions on the track. Car and Driver was able to get the Z06 up to an "unverified" 207mph, so who knows what the ZR1 is capable of.
