American automakers have shown a strong resurgence in quality levels in the recent past and the trend appears to be continuing. Last year Buick tied with Lexus in a J.D. Power dependability study and before that Ford topped a study on initial quality. The Blue Oval has once again come out on top in an initial quality survey, this time equaling usual favorites Toyota and Honda.
The new report was based on an annual survey of thousands of new car buyers and was conducted by independent research firm RDA Group on behalf of Ford. The latest study looked at 2008 model cars and trucks from all full-line manufacturers with respondents in the survey asked to list the number of problems they had encountered during the first 90 days of ownership of their new cars, reports The Detroit News.
RDA has been conducting the annual survey for Ford for close to a decade, with preceding years showing a narrowing gap between American and foreign makes. The research group also conducts a number of studies for rival automakers and its findings have traditionally matched those of rival research firm J.D. Power and Associates.

I said this would happen last year.. American cars are getting better, Japanese quality has fallen off in recent years.

I drove the Fusion a few days ago. It's pretty nice. Needs a bit more power, but it handles better than my Accord.

One of my buddies has a Chevy 1500 with 420,000 miles. Thing just purrs, to be honest I was shocked to hear it had that many miles.
Ford quality has improved dramatically. This survey is about initial quality, however, so time will tell. GM is a different story.
Toyota comes out with an awesome product and then cuts back in model revisions to reach a more advantageous quality versus cost ratio.
Mitsubishis will design a shitty product from the start in hopes that black people buy them.

How many miles does your tacoma have?
There have been several silverado's(gas sbc's) that have hit a million miles on the original untouched engine.....

You realize that the Toyota your driving was put together by AMERICANS? Go buy urself a mid-90's model Chevrolet 1/2 ton truck, and see how long it lasts. I can personally attest that as long as you service them in regular intervals, they'll last FOR A LONG TIME.
Not to mention the parts to repair the Chevrolet (should something happen to it) will be a fraction of the cost of the same Toyota parts....

Uh I think you misinterpreted him.:hsugh: I dont think he was coming across as ugly. That and it is the automotive WORLD coverage section of the forums. If everyone loved only* imports then what fun would this section be?
sorry what I caught was "Japanese products engineered in Japan and built in America are just as unreliable"

Try finding Chevy Malibu parts in Osaka. That's what I thought, no argument

This whole "Japanese car parts are more expensive" arguement is a load of crap. Whenever I've had to buy a reman'ed alternator, starter or whatever, they're just as much as domestic parts. Perhaps because they're rebuilt here.
No matter how nice domestics get, it's unlikely I'll ever own one again. Those late 80's to mid 90's full size chevy trucks are bulletproof though!
