i see a lot of credit threads. this site might be helpful to some of you. it's free, no credit card information required. they make their money from ads. it doesn't give you a full break down of your credit score, just your transunion score.

www.creditkarma.com

use code:

... or you could just get your actual free report (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Annualcreditreport.com) straight from the bureaus: https://www.annualcreditreport.com/

You don't get your credit score with that though.
You only get all three bureau's report. It's good to have both your reports and the scores, even though that website only offers transunion one. But hey, one is better than none.

True, the free credit report is only to see if there are mistakes and not to get your score. Also, Transunion sucks balls (because they are my lowest score lol)

I'm at 826.
I knew I had excellent credit scores, but I thought it was only in the 780s.

Wow.. that score is way up there :eek3:.

I fluctuate around ~700-730+ depending on my spending habits. How long did it for you to get around 780 and beyond?

I would say around 3-4 years. Closer to 4 I think.

How accurate is that thing. I checked about 6 months ago and I was at like 590 because of credit issues. Now it said I had like a 680. Maybe it has to do with paying off my credit cards but who knows. I used to have like 3-4 that had a balance but now only 1 does and it is right around 2000.00

wow, I thought I would have established very little credit by now. But 738 aint too bad on my part. I think its better than my parent's credit score.

correct me if im wrong, but i was watching cnn financial report and they were talking about all these "free credit report" commercials...and they were saying..dont do it that often because apparently every time you check your credit score, it can potentially lower it...

iono...just trying to pass on some info if it applies

when you check your own credit score (soft pull), it won't affect your credit score. If you have one of those credit monitoring services, you can update your credit score everyday and it won't lower your score.
When a lender checks your credit because you requested a credit like mortgage/credit cards, loans, etc (hard pull), then it will lower your credit score by a little.

You can pull your own report. It will not lower it at all. If you go shoping for credit. Car loans, credit cards it will lower it. But pulling them yourself it does not.

Also i would use www.myfico.com to get them. While its not free. This is your true FICO score. Not a FAKO score. You can use promo code MW01 and get 20% off. I would not enter my SSN for a site being hosted on Godaddy.

I would not use this site.

how bad is it if you have a negative account( meaning past due) on your credit report. I just checked mine and noticed a hospital bill from July 2007 was turned in an posted as a past due/outstanding/negative account.

Very bad. Pay it. get a hold of the collection agency. 99% of the time if you pay it and they will remove it form your report. Get it in writing.
