Let's list it out and cut some back?
Let's do this on a monthly basis and some of mine were unknown I didn't want to calculate :p
I got:
Car Payment: $300.00
Gas: $200.00
Cell Phone: $40.00
Credit Card: $300.00
Food and Crap: $200.00-$300.00
Student Loans: ????
These are probrably the main things.
Now that I have a new job and I all I think I pay the car off (Odyssey) and start paying off the credit card crap.

I do - I would be doing a ton better if i wasnt paying out the ass in rent.
but my gas is minimal being able to walk to work.
Motorcycle payment - 160
Gas - 100
Credit Card - 300
Food - 4-500 - need to work on that one.
Other shit - Too much

I consider myself comfortable:
monthly spends:
Savings: $900

Cars: $750
Food (for the family): $1000 (we eat out way too much)
Gas & repairs: $350
Other misc 'stuff' : $1000

Mine is cut back pretty far already as I have been working on this since October.
Rent - $440
Credit Cards - $300
Car - $317
Ins - $100
Electric - $25 - $100 depending on time of year
Food - $100
Gas - $110
Student loans are deferred until I get my car paid for....then I will take the extra $$ and pay it as fast as I can.
I still have quite a bit left over to play with and I am trying to get the xB paid off.

So if you are saving lets so about 10-15% of your monthly NET income is that considered to be a good amount of savings?

So 10% of gross and put that into a nice little CD or Savings account with a nice percentage of 4-6% would be great!

i try to save 16% of gross plus the 8%(pre-tax of course) I put into the 401k.
Comes out to about 800 a month which i try to move into my etrade account. I trust that more than I do my saving account. Easily transferred back to savings and not even earning enough to keep up with inflation.
Note all the "try's". It doesnt seem to happen like clockwork.

buy car parts for me and sometimes ill buy car parts for my bf.
eat steak and sushi every weekend and sometimes every day of the week we'll eat out..and i pay for bf's brother (i pay cuz i ask him to go, its only right that i pay for someone i invited)
go shopping-sometimes i also take my bf shopping
groceries
dog food/vaccines/check ups
savings for whatever i want to buy

sorry boredom at work made me respond to this thread.
rent - 465
Cable/Internet - 80
lights - 50-60
Food - 150-200 (i take frozen food to work, helped out ALOT)
Gas - 200-220
Ins - 57
CC - 400 (paying way more than that at the moment, or well was till my car decided to take a shit on me :( but i'll get back to it soon as that expense is out of the way)
cell phone - 87 for me and my mom
Gym - 65 (me and my g/f)
random Loan - 120 (that'll be done as of this month yaay!)
netflix - 18 (my g/f's a movie freak)
still a decent amount left over for anything that may come up (like the car situation for example) sadly i have not started truely saving yet, i take out a lot through my federal witholdings but i never put it aside, so i'm changing that now, started my 403b recently at 8% pre-tax and lowered my federal witholdings to help offset that change in my income, since my loans gonna be ending soon i shouldn't see to drastic a difference between before and after the extra money taken out of my check, least i'm hoping so, if i do, i can always lower my federal witholdings some more. all in all i'm happy, but i'd like to do better by getting these CC bills to be non-existent (6k to go :()

cell - $80
gas - $90 (assuming it takes about $45 a fill up and i will only go to work and school, no houston trips)
cable/internet - $20
electricity - $55
food - $250
car,insurance,rent - $0 (paid for already)
Total for July 2008 - $540
I am also taking summer classes so i'm not working full time at the moment and my checks are only $1032 biweekly...
$2064 - $540 = $1524
I can prolly cut down on the food... eating out kills. I used to do $100 budget for food a month and it worked out well when i cooked and didn't go out to eat.
