go get a tax permit and walk up and down harwin. plenty of wholesalers there and its a great way to start. you won't make a shitload of cash but you need to learn the basics before you do it big.

Good advice. Umm of course I know it's not gonna be easy, if it was easy then everyone would be doing I guess.

think about what youd like to specialize in. do research - see what kind of competition is out there. talk to people in the industry - manufacturers and other wholesalers, sales reps, etc. harwin is not small scale by any means, there are some huge wholesalers out here. good luck.

Well it really all depends on what you plan on wholesaling. If you plan on selling small items like retail store items id suggest getting on the retail side of things before trying wholesale. That way you get a better understanding of the business and how it works. When on the retail side, you get a sense of what stores are willing to pay for the item and how much the public will pay for it. Once you get into the wholesale, you will know exactly what your wholesale market price for the item is. You can also try becoming a jobber for a larger wholesaler. These are individuals that purchase items a little above the wholesaler cost, and you then wholesale them to your customers. The benefit of becoming a jobber is that you dont have to keep much inventory in stock because your larger wholesale company is the one that supplies you. To become a jobber you really only need a couple things. A large cargo van, some liquid captial (cash), and a company that is willing to job to you.

So if I were to retail certain electronics and items, where would I look to get good prices for these items. That looks like a good path/ place for me to start, you are right. Is there a "in" or a gorup that i needa get myself an "in" with to get wholesale items from them and then turn around to retail for profit? Like buyign bulk for retail.

good lawds it aint easy if youre trying to do this as a maybe side job if you currently have a real job. I would assume youre working right now to be able to get the products.

I do VERY small scale stuff and its a bit of a pain in the butt. I cant imagine what kind of work racin does. He knows his stuff.

Its great to know someone overseas that can help you with connection. Also good if you can speak another language. Go up and down harwin to see what you can find. I dunno how some of those places stay in business they sell utter crap!

I think the issue you will come across is having inventory thats not moving. That sucks :(

cool vietnamese is good. I dont think there are too many vietnamese wholesellers on harwin From what i see they are either korean, chinese or indian/paki.

The pricings you see when you go down harwin are their "wholesale to the public" price. Its cheaper than normal thats the price they sell to anyone walking in. You're after the wholesale for companies cost.

You may want to speak with the owner or someone that can give you an account with the company.

be sure to get your TEXAS Sales and Use TAX ID. They wont speak to you without one. Then you open the doors to cheapstuff!

Dude, to be completely honest it sounds like you really have no idea what you want to do. Sounds like you are out to make a quick and easy buck on something you have no idea about. Owning your own business let alone starting a wholesale company is no easy task. To do wholesale you have to have a very good knowledge of all aspects of your product. You need to know how much they are worth, what the street value is, what other companies sell the same product for, how much people are willing to spend on a retail aspect, how much companies buy, what price breaks you can get from ordering on a larger scale, whats your demographic , and I could keep going. RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH. You need to know the ins and outs of your market. You know how many other people on harwin sell electronics and stuff?? (TONS at least 5 or 6 on every corner) Whats gonna make people buy from you instead of from them?

My biggest suggestion before you do anything is RESEARCH! You need to sit down and come up with a business plan. The plan should include how much money it takes to start it up, how much inventory is going to cost, how much you can sell that inventory for, how much money you plan on making, what your target market is, where you are going to sell your products, how to promote your company, and the biggest what EXACT products are you going to sell.

I cant stress this enough....RESEARCHH!!!! :o

Well like J stuff said, maybe I should look into retail before I do wholesale, so I guess my question becomes:

Whats does it take to be a retailer of certain goods?
Where can I get bulk of cheap stuff to sell?
Anyone here made money buying wholesale goods and reselling them, retail (without a store) before?

I guess that is more suitable now. But for sure, I am gonna do as much research as I can before I jump in and drown. I guess this is what this thread is all about. I wanted to get some pros to help me striaghten my ideas out and give me some advice on how to start and where to start.

Again thank you guys so much for bearing with a noob like me on this one. I apperciate all the help!
