When my lease is up on my apartment in July I plan on trying to buy a house.
I plan on staying there for awhile 7-10 years at least (if job situation dont change) but ultimately plan on selling whatever I buy.
Should I go for the nicer starter homes or find a decent fixer upper that may bring me a lil more value when I try to sell it? Over the time lived there I will be working on it here and there to improve it for when it is sold.
And by fix'er upper I dont mean completely run down...just needs some TLC.
thoughts? concerns? boobies?

You can buy fixer upper, but find it in the right neighborhood. If you buy anywhere, don't think to yourself you gain 25% more than the rest of the hood. Marketing a 75k house in 50k neighborhood is not smart as it will take time to sell (if you could sell it at all). Get what I'm saying?
Almost everyone offer first time home buyer discount. Ask for it! I believe it was 1 or 2%. It might not sound alot, but for like $150k house, you'll get 1500-3000 bucks in saving. That's alot of shit you can get with that money.

"Fixer Upper's" are usually a lot more work than you may think. I recommend finding a nice starter home with a little bit of equity in a subdivision that sells well. If you do decide to get a fixer upper I would recommend staying away from foreclosures and get a very good inspector.

yep!
fixer uppers are only good if its just paint and carpet, anything past that and its usually not worth it for the average joe. if you have some contractors you can put to work however, and you are willing to deal with the stress involved go for it.

My best friend builds houses for a living and will be the sole person in charge of making sure its not just a junk house.
