View Full Version : What does it take to get an 850 credit score?

I've had my credit for some time, and according to every bank I go through I have Tier 1 credit. It doesn't mean much to me (right now) other than I can get approved for virtually anything I want, but its rare that I ever hear about people having an 850 FICO score. Is that something only billionaires get? Or someone who's had impeccable credit for 50+ years?

Billionares don't have credit, they pay cash. Hence no reason to have a credit history.

long term investments get you credit score of 850, like having perfect credit for 20-30 years will get you 850

mine's 675 and it's still hard to get approved for minor things. I get approved for home loans and shit like that for some reason.

Why would they pay cash when they could invest that money?

The lowest possible score is 300, while the highest is 850.
http://www.pueblo.gsa.gov/cic_text/money/creditscores/your.htm
FICO scores range from 300-850
http://www.christianet.com/creditreports/highestcreditscore.htm
The highest credit score one can achieve is the magical FICO number of 850, which is a perfect score

mine's 675 and it's still hard to get approved for minor things. I get approved for home loans and shit like that for some reason.
Reason for that. Let say you try and buy a 5k (not much in interest to the bank for that small of money.) bike with 675 ----You can take that bike never pay for it and hide it. Can a cop come and take a bike that you don't have in your presence? You got a free bike and the expense of your credit.
Reason you get approved for a house. You get a 150k house (alot alot ALOT of interest money to bank. Your 150k house turns into a 350k house to the bank.) Can you take a house and hide it? Can you just pack up the house and leave town? Can a house be repo easier then a bike? Thats why they give you credit for something big rather then something small.

He isn't lying actually. While I'm talking about the commonly known FICO score he could be referring to the VantageScore: http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/Banking/YourCreditRating/WhatTheNewCreditScoreMeansToYou.aspx

Check out this Link its breaks down the New Vantage Credit Scale Over the Old FICO Scoring Scale. I should have made myself a little more clear when I posted the First time. I hope this clears things up a little for you guys.
Fico 300-850
Vantage 500-990
Two of the Three Credit Bureaus Trans Union and Expreian are already using The Vantage Score rating

yeah but that would be an obvious easy scam. Repot the bike stolen, have a friend at a body shop put a kit on it and paint it. buy a salvaged bike yadda yadda.
But totally not worth the hassle+credit score for a bike. I get what he's saying though.

Wait, Bill Gates doesn't have 40 billion dollars in his Wells Fargo Account? I wonder if he has that overdraft protection as well. I'm pretty sure he has a savings account where they transfer over $25 every month so he doesn't have to pay the fees for a savings account, just in case he goes below $100.

Bill Gates could have all his money at Wells Fargo if he chooses to, remeber he is covered up to 100,00 per bank, wells fargo would have more than one bank to insure him under, and his wife is another social security number he gets coverage under. But most people with vast amounts of wealth are using the institutional fund regardless of "money accounts" Tax exempt money funds for the wealty rule the earth. Catch us if you can...........

mine is a lil above 700 it used to be 640 like 3 months ago, you can build your credit fairly fast. What i use is myfico.com it tells you how to build your credit it pulls all of your balances from each lender and the history you have with them. I'm not trying to sell this or anything but myfico.com is probably the best website out there for people who know nothing or even a lot about credit. You only pay 6.99 a month its worth it...it deffinately help build my credit.

bill gates doesnt have 40billion dollars...he is worth 40 billion...big difference there. if i had 50k in my bank account, 100k in my investment account, and 850k in realestate, what would i be worth? 50k? or 1 million?
billionaires dont pay cash, they use credit.
there is more than one way to measure a credit score, so the 870 that someone mentioned, while it maybe true, it is not a FICO score, but another scoring method.
someone said it has to do with long term investments...uhmm, i'll be nice, and just say thats incorrect. it has nothing to do with your investments.
generally, 800+ scores are mostly held by senior citizens. why? b/c they have had credit for a longer period than you and i, have little to no debt, and they actually paid their bills ontime everytime unlike a huge percentage of todays population.

I just checked mine up there with the free credit report thing.
It shows 2 active accts. One is my car loan and the other is a DIscovery Card I have never owned:confused:
It also doesnt show where I have fucked up with credit in the past so what gives?

so im guessing the best way to get your credit in good standing, is to pay everything on time and then once the bill is at 0 balance, close the account on the ones that arent necessary.

Never close a credit card account rather just stick it in your drawer and don't use it. It will close itself I think?
Charge > Pay > Charge > Pay = Credit Score Increase

Pay minimums on other credit cards and focus on paying one at a time I believe is the best method?

you dont need an 850 credit score period...
Your CC won't close for not using it. Most will charge a yearly fee of some type. And just never have the balance over 40% and pay on time.
To get 850 you have to be an old person with great credit history. I'd be suprised if anyone below 30 had an 850.
