Any tips?

I just signed up with TaxAct and seems pretty straight forward but wondering if anyone(more experienced with filling taxes) had any tips about what i can write off.

If you are a college student, the school should be sending you a 1098-T so you can claim education credit along with your standardized deductions.

taxact.com saw it another thread in the Money Minded section. free too so for first timers i think it'd be pretty cool to see the whole process.

Doing it online is better. And it's not going to screw you. It's the same even if you bought the software at bestbuy.

Yes taxact is awesome. I have used them for like 3-4 years and have known many other people who have used them. If you are in high school then taxact is perfect for you. It is even free to file through them.

but i hear you dont get to claim as much as other agencies do for you. I think im just going to take it to my friend. I know some colleges do it for you for free, like cy fair college( even if you are not a student there)

You normally have to mail in an 8453 with the dcn number they give you.

They all work with the same forms and the same information.

The difference with the online stuff is that it is all on you. (which I actually like). Your tax preparer isnt liable for your tax return being wrong. and the IRS doesnt mess around.

For what it's worth, I had a CPA friend go over mine one year, and she came up with the same thing turbo tax online did.

Yea, they also have turbotax on some computers at the library so you can DIY :thumb:
