as for the lifecycles, they are geared towards how many years you have till retirement. the 20XX is the year you plan to retire by...

right now i have 100% going to the 2055 lifecycle but i want to diversify my investments... what do you guys think? for the time being i dumped 25% to the International Stock Index Fund, but if someone can recommend somethign else, im all ears..

Depends on how risky you want to be. There should be a website where you are able to find out how risk averse you are. My professor said for someone our age, we can be a little bit more reckless and pick riskier options ( which equals to higher returns most of the time) since we'll have our whole lives to make the money back.

Since you're young you should look at investing in oversea stock i.e. international. This will yield the highest returns but also pose a much higher risk however you have age on your side to make these type of aggressive decisions. Look into investing at least 70% of your 401k in international and 30% in stock with moderate risk.

i realize the whole "you're young, you can be more risky" plan.... however i dont know dick about any of those stocks really.... there are charts and numbers and explainations but that doesnt mean anything to me either... i was hoping someone would toss me a bone...

I just did...invest in the international stock fund. I am sure you got a booklet explaining the others. Read up on them...it should include financials and degree of risk.

wrd. im 75% / 25% in my lifecycle / international... might go 50% / 50% soon. the lifecycle is broken down to about 60% small/big business and 40% international, so i have a lot of international funds going there

i'll let that sit for a few months see how it works out

at least you know not to invest in Real Estate (right now) and screw bond funds cause the interest rate market makes them suck right now plus you are young for that right now.

I put the tickers on yahoo finance and check past performance and Morningstar ratings to pick mine.

RETIREMENT PLANNING FOR 2008

If you had purchased $1,000.00 of Nortel stock one year ago, it would
now be worth $49.00.

With Enron, you would have had $16.50 left of the original $1,000.00.

With WorldCom, you would have had less than $5.00 left.

If you had purchased $1,000 of Delta Air Lines stock you would have
$49.00 left

But, if you had purchased $1,000.00 worth of beer one year ago,
drank all the beer, then turned in the cans for the aluminum recycling
REFUND, You would have had $214.00.

Based on the above, the best current investment advice is to drink
heavily and recycle.
