Ok so heres the story:
I closed my account at Wachovia on Dec. 17 because I switched banks and they were assholes about the overdraft fees. So I go in and pay the balance on my account to make it $0 and tell her to close my account. She says "all done and we are sorry for losing you as a customer" blah blah blah. Well, on Dec. 27 i get a notice saying i have over drafted my account!! WHAT ACCOUNT?!?! Then this past Monday I get a slip saying I have to pay a -$145.00 balance on my account! WTF?
So my question is, Is there a way to fight this or should I just pay the $145? Its not like im going to be in debt if I pay it, its just the fact that I shouldnt have to! I figured maybe someone on here is a banker and could shine some light on all this BS! Thanks guys.

ask for a statement and see where the $145 came from. if you see something that shouldnt be there dispute it. if not, just pay it.

yeah, ask for a statement, if it was closed it will state that when they try to pull up your current statement.

Did you have any open/pending charges to the account?

yea i was gonna ask for the statement to see what charges were made but i just don't understand how they "pay" my shit even after I close the account. I mean they could have called me or something to tell me that they payed something on my "account" even after it was closed rather then letting the crap build up and get so many fee's charged to me you know?
Do you think that they will let me pay the actual amount and take off the fee charges since my account was closed?
Did you have any open/pending charges to the account?
I switched all reoccurring charges to my new account before i closed so Idk what it was from until i check tha staement

Did you have online banking? If so, log in and see where the charges came from. If you had any pending charges, it will still post in a closed account.
If sure you are more then welcome to step into the branch and see what happen.

Bankers would be on the phone all day calling clients if that was the case. It is your responsibility to see what gets debited and credited into your account. It would be impossible for the bank to "monitor" everyones account like they would.

I stopped using the account alittle more than two weeks before closing so nothing was pending.
Im going in either today or tomorrow. im just afraid im going to get too pissed if the lady says some shit like "o it was never closed" lol

i say that because i used to get alerts via email if my account was close or if it was over drafted but after closing the account i never received any emails so I assumed everything was straight.
maybe "call" was the wrong usage of words, i meant "contact me" like they did when i had an account.

I've had that happen to clients before, accounts were never closed.
But even then, something must have hit your account to cause the negative balance. If I were you, I would try to visit the same location, speak to the same banker that "closed" your account. Also, bring your receipt of the deposit.

yea thank god i kept that damn recipt from the deposit and her business card! thanks for the advice bro.
so i take it you work for a bank? do you think they will allow me to pay the actual amount of the charges and waive the fees they charged me considering the circumstances?

Well it depends, some banks are more lenient then others.
I would stress the fact that it was a bank error, lol. When it's bank error, fees are reversed, no questions asked.
If its purchases, auto debits, etc. then it's up to the branch to reverse the fees.
note that they CAN call credit collectors on you, so i wouldn't let it just slide. just figure out if its an error on their end or yours, clear it up, and get an account at WAMU.

Yes, WaMu is your best bet for a Mortgage loan.
They'll give loans to anyone.
To bad they don't give personal loans, everyone and their momma would be in debt, lol.
you might have a reoccuring charge?

^Even so, a "closed" account should reject that charge.

second chance checking lolz....
I was in your shoe 2 years ago also, but instead it was Wells Fargo. I stop using my checking account for about a month so all pending charges were done. After completely closing my account, a month later I got a mail from Wells Fargo saying I owe them $120 in overdraft fee. I was so fucking piss I went straight up there and went off on the Manager. After disputing it and getting all overdraft fee charges dropped, the manager apologized to me, but I just walked off like whatever.

nope. i have an acct with wells fargo that i dont use anymore and an acct with gulf coast educators.
got my car loan just fine too (4.75%). should i still worry bout it?

Damn, 4.75% on a car loan.
Nice...I know that wasnt with WF, lol.
If you dont use the WF acct., I would close it. Their different types of accounts that require different things.
When you least expect it, a service fee will hit cuz you stopped your direct deposit, you closed your savings, you stopped a monthly transfer, you went below the min. balance...etc.
thanks for all tha feedback guys :thumb:

i had chase and wells fargo and both were constantly hitting me with fees and fucking up my account, switched to WAMU about 7 years ago and haven't had one issue yet. i love them for my personal banking, never had any experience with them on loans though.
its been well over a year. i dont even remember my acct number or else i'd ask you to close it for me lol. i still get monthly statements so tisall good.
