Some of you have seen these on a couple other forums, but for those that haven't here's a glimpse of what Cali had to offer. These aren't the best pix, but they'll do for now till I get a little better.
I'd like this thread to be motivation for Houston to step their game up another notch and show Cali that Houston is still well alive. We can all go to shows and have our opinions and also look at them and wish our scene was like that. But its up to YOU the enthusiast to do your part and make a difference. Everyone plays a part in what we(Houston) has here. We have the the potential to be on the same level. So Lets make some things happen in 2008.

Slappy, couldnt have said it better myself. One other thing that Houston needs to do is to SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL SUPPLIERS and DEALERS of car products.
Look at us, we dont have any more tuner shops like we used to. Why? Simply because people are either too cheap and want knockoffs or just want to save $5 by ordering online from CALI.
So im going to say it again, Support your local dealers and try to keep the business within town. The more you do, the more products we can get you

No, It's just that people here think that rotas + lip + tein = Lets go to a car show.
Also you have to look at the geographic advantage, they get everything from cali first. Any used wheels or parts from japan ... we get the last pickings.
They get everything faster, products, news, and information. By the time its here, its watered down

honestly, when i'm shopping for parts, cali shops have been the cheapest for car parts so far.
most of the shops i've seen when i was shopping for exterior parts in houston had jacked up prices. they were really high and not even reasonable. so i'd have to purchase something locally from a person or from cali. if some car shops in houston(not going to say the names) didn't have such high costs for the parts i wanted, then they would have my full support as a customer.
for example, i was going to purchase jdm window visors for my car from a shop, but they said they would charge me $300 to make a profit, which is 2x more than a shop in cali.

This is true, Ive made numerous purchases at jhp, memfab, and jdmland because some of the loacals I got quotes from were ass raping with their prices. Hopefully someone steps up and trys to help the scene while running a profitable business.

i think we put cali on a pedestal too much.
Cali is looked up to, BUT we can, and have had some badass cars in the past. Sometimes it just takes a little time and research to find that part(s) that set your car off. Just because Cali has it doesn't mean we can't have it or even source something that not even they have came out with yet.
Slappy, couldnt have said it better myself. One other thing that Houston needs to do is to SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL SUPPLIERS and DEALERS of car products.
Thanks holmes!!!! I try and give the guy(s) here in town a shot first when I source things. I'd pay a little more to help the guy in town rather than buy it online or whatever. And when I say pay a little more, ex If a set of tires are $800 bucks on Tire Rack, and "Walkers Garage" has them for $830 or so, I'd pay the little extra to support my hometown guy.
Trust me, Houston has some BIG up and comers :ninja:

im new to this scene and my car is getting close to where it should be respected at any scene, so i dont want to step on anyone's feet but maybe when we have a show we do it right, keep the fat ugly chicks out well at least out of the pics and let only show cars in not cars with rims and a lip kit, full on show cars, interior, body, paint, stereo, performance......real show cars have tons of stuff done to them and real show cars can be daily drivers but hell if you are going to show at least clean your car....and if you have any work that needs to be done, do it and show at the next show...tired of "under construction" stickers. Houston can get on the map but who gives a crap about cali or anyone else

I asked for a quote from someone here in houston for Work Euroline DH and he quoted me over $500 worth of profit for himself.
wheels are a funny thing. Not everyone gets big discounts. some people go direct others go through a distributer. Depending on the brand and volume you buy will change your discount. I know you already know this though. but until you know what everyones pricing is, saying 500 dollars profit can be misleading. that can be the diff between 15% off and 30/35% off. it all just depends on what account someone has.
as for other things like Visors like someone had mentioned-visors are never sold really to make a profit.they are just small things to draw in customers.now charging 300 is just outrageous. but I dont think supporting local shops/buying from christian/buying from me/buying from carboy has ANYTHING to do with our scene
our scene is the way it is, because of us. no one else is to blame. we can make it better but it will take EVERYONE getting along to make it better.

honestly, when i'm shopping for parts, cali shops have been the cheapest for car parts so far.
most of the shops i've seen when i was shopping for exterior parts in houston had jacked up prices. they were really high and not even reasonable. so i'd have to purchase something locally from a person or from cali. if some car shops in houston(not going to say the names) didn't have such high costs for the parts i wanted, then they would have my full support as a customer.
for example, i was going to purchase jdm window visors for my car from a shop, but they said they would charge me $300 to make a profit, which is 2x more than a shop in cali.
it's true i try to buy parts here but the prices are way--y higher...
nice cars very nice
yesterdays ifo compared to these cali cars. we are way below their level. too many stock cars that are dirty, chipped paint everywhere, parts with no paint, not show worthy
imo. only 10% of cars ive seen at ifo can compete with cali.
hopefully import reactor we bring out the res of houston's real show cars

that's weak, dude. People have bills, people have lives. But that's no excuse of why you can't build a nice car. Its not about deep pockets, its about sacrifice, dedication, hard work and always always, always keeping your eyes on the prize. Too many people are okay with mediocrity. Others wanna create something new and fresh.

seriously i hope no one thinks it is going to be the most amazing thing ever. I take my time-plan it out-research research research-purchase-create what I invision.then repeat.
Im doing a full build.it is taking a long time because Slappy,Metric, and I are building 100% ourself. the only exception is exterior paint.By doing things like this you can save thousands. I will admit it takes a LOT longer to do bc you have to learn new things and research them 200%-but in the end the gratification is amazing!
Most of what you guys see in the pictures Slappy took is labor. most cars honestly dont have a crap load of usdm or jdm parts. its just custom work and creativity. In the end it will look like you spent a LOT more then you did.
Now I know that me saying that implies its very affordable. I wouldnt go that far. but plan your build-research it-and slowly build it. you wont realize and heavy costs as long as you dont rush it.your biggest costs are seats/wheels/paint/brakes. the rest for the most part can be bought part by part.most of the parts can be bought used even.
there are a million different ways to do all of it. The important thing is that you see what you want to do. you have to have a goal in mind. One thing that really makes a difference is the reason your doing it. is it bc you want to show off? win a car show? brag? or do you TRULY love it. People always ask about my car. Im building my car for me-i could give a fck less who likes it when its done. thats what makes it fun, making yourself happy.
and to those who complain about bills. fck man we all have bills. I have a lot of bills too. but I plan out what i want to do. budget it. slowly create what i want. patience is key.

I dont think supporting local shops/buying from christian/buying from me/buying from carboy has ANYTHING to do with our scene
Actually I think it does.
Lets say we actually had a shop like superautobacs here. All the authentic-ness would inspire people not to settle for the type r replica seats, get the real ones. It would inspire people to shop for quality parts and accessories even if they are used to put on their car. It would allow people easier access to things they wouldnt bother as well.
Now lets say we had several shops in town again like..
Hocus Pocus, Endless, Carboy being as popular as it was before, Showtime Autotrix, Shutoko and all the other places that arent here anymore. Imagine if people went to these places and supported them enough that those companies grew to accomodate everyone. Imagine what kind of scene we would have here?
But no, were very limited to shops now. 90% of everyone just googles a place or shops at a forum with sponsors based in california. They grow and grow off of us.
Granted, 95% of everyone here that has an account most likely goes through someone in cali anyways. But still no revenue is generated in town.

yes and no.
Those shops all sold a variety. we have a shop left in town that has EVERYTHING and can get ANYTHING. I <3 muh ngas at Asaa but I dont think that having a bunch of shops would change our scene one bit.
The scene fell apart long before the shops shut down. Think about it. and answer honest. Do you really think a shop carrying high quality stuff would make enough money to survive? no.
I could tell you exactly what shops like my ol pal suhdirs shop(road warrior) made money off of. it was not high end parts. Im sure ASAA could chime in as well as to what they make the bulk of their money from. The cold truth is that many in this town are NOT in it for the high end stuff.
who really wants to spend over $6000 dollars for a bumper, side skirts, and wing? when they could get a replica of all that for under $800.
Having shops here should not make much of a difference as to how big our scene is. it may have some impact but its not as great as you make it sound.
even still, lets say it did. everyone reading this thread should be supporting local shops like ASAA instead of searching online for the absolute cheapest.Having shops locally does not change 90% of Houstons import communitys mentality. the internet changed the car part buying experience in every facet and in every state. thats life.
In this day and age where kids who grew up in bfe waller can build a import car that rivals all other import builds world wide-I would think it safe to say that the scene is where you make it/and what you make it. I just dont see where having more shops would make a difference. we dont have enought ppl supporting the ones that are still here.
maybe that makes no sense. we should get together with others and talk about ways to change the direction of our scene.

i feel that. i think it all boils down to the consumers bottom line. for most people, if they can get it for cheaper elsewhere, they're going to do it, even if it's gotta be shipped and gonna take like 3 months versus now. there are people who will rep for houston and buy locally for support. but in the end, you have to have the heart to build the car, we need to bring that "go big, or go home" mentality. people are all too ready to settle for mediocrity i.e. replica lip, rota's, and springs, and call it a day. even then the cars don't flow half the time, unpainted lips, springs that drop half an inch. like 6 - 7 years ago, some of the mild stuff now would be revolutionary, but alot of people aren't willing to do any more than they already have, or they don't budget their resources (time and money) accordingly. you're right, the biggest purchases are wheels, suspension (including brakes), and paint, but people give up when they hit the big purchases, rather than saving their money and budgeting to allow for the major purchases.
building cars is not exactly the most rational hobby, you sink tons and tons of money in a car that you have to buy, but if you ever want to sell it, you're never going to get CLOSE to what you put into it, but in the end it's about the love for the game and your love for your car and all the hardwork you put into it to grasp your vision for your car.
that being said, yes you can be rational and spend little by little on the car, no one said you have to be a big baller and drop all the money on the car at once, but if you can't justify buying a part you really love, maybe you need to reanalyse why you're building the car in the first place.
that being said, i don't own a modded car, i can't seeing myself doing it big like you jesse, and maybe one day i will, but as of right now that's not my priority and i'm not going to try to do it, if i can't do it big.

your right! I think a lot of us are misunderstood by things we say online. It comes out a little different. In person 99.999999% of us are willing to help anyone who asks. I have opened my garage up to anyone wanting to see what im doing-or needing help with something. But sometimes online what is funny to us, isnt always the case with others.
I know ppl prob think im some HUGE asshole bc I say things online that are prob only funny to me.But ask anyone who knows me and they will tell you in person i am very down to earth and laid back.
So in that respect I think its important for people to talk in person. not get so caught up with internet stuff. I mean honestly the internet is all for fun most of the time right? but when someone says something we dont like or dont agree with we get all mad and defensive. In person I dont think there would be many arguements. Its all just e-drama. I cant think of any person in town who i truly would not help if they asked.everyone I have ever met in person has been really cool. Its just that online we come off as diff. then what we really are. does that make sense?

It comes down to people getting sand in their vaginas. People cant take any constructive criticism. Like you said Jesse, most people are here to help but you cant help those that dont want to be helped in the first place.

01-22-2008, 08:49 PM
we'll some people are trying to constructive, and theres others that are just being asses on purpose. ego's are big in houston, especially when things said are misconstrued. and some just can't take critism. we're being counterproductive in this culture sometimes trying to filter out the bad.

Sometimes it just takes a little time and research to find that part(s) that set your car off.
Like I said we play a part in our Scene here.
But plan your build-research it-and slowly build it.
Have a goal in mind.
Patience is key.
Its not about deep pockets, its about sacrifice, dedication, hard work and always always, always keeping your eyes on the prize. Too many people are okay with mediocrity. Others wanna create something new and fresh.
That's what separates the men from the boys.
:wrd: Go big or Go home...
I'd like to think i'm in this category!!! :hide:

Correct....take for example a couple of the cars posted. The Rootbeer EG.... here. This was his first car and bought it in High School 7 years ago. From then until now look @ what it has become. It's been through a couple transformations as other cars have all over. Point is, his car took years to build and lots of time and research. I think if "some" people would take a little more time with thier cars, that time would show and make their car more than what it is.
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l157/Slappy17206/JDM%20Theory%202008/IMG_6121-1.jpg
we have a shop left in town that has EVERYTHING and can get ANYTHING. I <3 muh ngas at Asaa.
Do you really think a shop carrying high quality stuff would make enough money to survive? no.
Im sure ASAA could chime in as well as to what they make the bulk of their money from. The cold truth is that many in this town are NOT in it for the high end stuff.
even still, lets say it did. everyone reading this thread should be supporting local shops like ASAA instead of searching online for the absolute cheapest. the internet changed the car part buying experience in every facet and in every state. thats life.
Werd to that!! They dont keep their doors open selling the name brand/hard to find stuff.
And yes the internet has made it hard for Local shops all over, it's hurt all types of businesses.
In the end, you have to have the heart to build the car.
building cars is not exactly the most rational hobby, you sink tons and tons of money in a car that you have to buy, but if you ever want to sell it, you're never going to get CLOSE to what you put into it, but in the end it's about the love for the game and your love for your car and all the hardwork you put into it to grasp your vision for your car.

I hope with all this is being read that maybe some of it is being takin seriously. I mean why are we all on here looking at car pics all the time? Inside all of us is a love or passion for automobiles. Lets see this expressed more, and take a little time to make that more noticable. Lately I can honestly say I'm starting to see some nicer wheels, kits, brakes and other parts. We can either sit here and post/copy pics from other forums, or we can have our(Houston Scene) pics copied. It's not going to happen overnight, but with time we can all help the Scene and each other. With Reactor coming up in May, I think alot of people are trying to make some things happen. Hopefully that fire will continue to grow and spark some growth and more quality here in 2008.
Even though I have a busy work schedule, I'm up to help however I can.

Also you have to look at the geographic advantage, they get everything from cali first. Any used wheels or parts from japan ... we get the last pickings.
They get everything faster, products, news, and information. By the time its here, its watered down

Here's a little quote from the great Rhandy Gagan that I have in my sigs.
The road has already been paved, it is up to you weather you want to follow that road or take a different route. To build a car takes more than just crap on TV ,shows, magazines and HONDA-TECH for me its more of an ART. You will spend more time in your lifetime thinking than any thing else in life!! Believe it or not! its true. Cars will always be competitive there will always be another creeping right behind you so when you think you are 1 step ahead, stop and think that, maybe your 2 steps behind!

that's a big part of it IMO, we all say you don't have to have big deep pockets and that most of those amazing builds happened over a period of years. but then others bash you for rolling on replicas instead of stock wheels, then bash you when you enter a show on stockies instead of aftermarket wheels, so what's the only option left if neither of those is acceptable, the real deal.
i know i want the authentic versions of the wheels i have now. I've been searching for a good while know and i STILL can't find the wheels i want, and couldn't afford them for a while even while looking. and the only option most feel i'm allowed if i'm a 'true enthousiast' is to roll on stock wheels until i locate a set or SETTLE for some other authentic set of wheels that i could give a shitless about. i'm not a person who likes to settle when i know what i want, but i do like to utilize alternatives until i can do better. and it kills me when ppl bash on someone because they didn't buy the best. this h-town scene is so negative its sickening. 'You can't support the scene unless you support 100% authenticity' plain and simple.
I'm all for the blood, sweat, tears, patience, love and hate that goes into building a car. But ppl have to start realizing that that doesn't always equate to only those who buy the best of the best. love for the scene is just that love for the scene. there's no price tag you can put on that and the more you disrespect ppl who are damn proud of what they built regardless of the parts list and state that they're basically a disgrace to the scene because they don't rock stuff on the level that you rock things on, the worse the scene's gonna get. I don't even wanna show my car even as it stands now because there'd be no point, i built it for myself and as much as i love the car show scene, I don't feel welcomed to be a part of it with the mentality that's possessed within it. which is "I can't show unless there's nothing else left for me to accomplish" If i entered a show now i'd be nevous and unhappy as hell, call me retarded, I love my car and it'd hurt to hear that during or after the show someone thought i was pure trash because i didn't have XXXX parts. kinda like how it would feel for someone to disprespect anything you love. least if you really loved it.
and another thing ppl gotta start recognising the difference between is show cars and street/strip cars. everyone doesn't want 4k rims when the 500 dollar ones get the job done and get it done well and look nice to them. just like idon't want a 1200 dollar manifold when my 700 dollar one gets the job done and gets it done well. and so on and so forth. so please stop crying about how Rota or sportmaxx or whoever else made a copy of your wheel. did you buy it only because no one had it or because you like it? if it's the later then that's all that matters, otherwise it sounds like you're building your car to please everyone else except yourself if you're threatened by 85 fakes to your 1 authentic piece.

good points!
I wanted to point out something that I would get flamed to death for. I dont ever post this-not because i dont like it-but bc at this day and age its unacceptable....
a close friend of mine built this car.. he got tired of all the bullshit in houston import scene so he sold it to me. I STILL own the car and it still looks like this, minus the kit and wheels. Yes people think conversions are gay-no I dont care what they say.Until I feel like restoring the car and modding it further-the conversion does not bother me.
Its almost taboo to own something like this now. BUT WHY. Why do we hate on something that obviously was not easy to do? I think if more people would respect the work that goes into a car and not worry if it is their style or not-we would have a lot less bullshit surronding us.

I dont' even wanna imagine how much the above paint job costs. but it looks great in it's own unique way
I'm not perfect, i've had some moments i wasn't proud of. but that's how you learn and grow. I had to revaluate what the true definition of a ricer was. it truely not about the makeup of the car but the mentality of the person behind the wheel of that car. So even if something isn't my cup of tea I try to refrain from calling it rice, that person may feel completely otherwise. but as long as that person isn't unrealistic about his/her views on their car or cars in general then they're alright with me. the dumbasses who get stuck tryin to live up to the what they think impresses the masses rather than their own person full potential are the ones that are ricers to me (be it show scene, street racing, etc....)

If you put your car into a "car show", you're putting yourself out there. If there are any "flaws" to your car (in someone's eyes), you're gonna hear it. When you see a fat chick in a beauty pageant, you bet your ass someone's gonna call her a fat cow. Sure, if you think it's the bee's knees, then it won't matter, but if you take the criticism hard, then it's not for you, at least not yet.
Same thing applies to "showing off" your car on the internet. If you bought some knock off wheels, somebody will be quick to point it out. In this day and age, it is waaaaaaaay too easy to get knock off parts period. It's nice to see some originality every so often. Don't get me wrong, if you put a ton of work on the exterior of a Kia Sedona, props to you, it's not easy, but if it's ugly, it's ugly.
Just because you have money doesn't mean you have good taste.
There are some broke ass people that have great taste, but lack the income. That's when creativity takes over. Trading parts, meeting people in the business, constantly searching for deals they come across. For example: maybe you can't afford some white Volk Racing TE-37's for your civic, you come across beaten, used bronze TE-37s on a local miata board for cheap. You sell your car stereo and make up the rest of the money to buy them. 4 months later you have some money saved and take a bent rim to a wheel shop to fix it. 2 months later you take all four wheels to get them powdercoated white. 4 months after THAT you buy some used tires and have them mounted.
Did you accomplish your goal? Yes. Did it take a year? Yes.
Does your civic look nicer than the guy on his 14" wheelmax's? YES.
But if you have patience, you set your goals, anything can be done. Use your resources. Don't be afraid to work hard for what you want, and don't settle for less.

i think i see what yessir is saying in one of his points. people that cant afford authencity at the time tend to lean towards knock offs or stick to stock oem until they can settle for the real thing. when they do have stock wheels or knockoff rotas, then people will bash on them. i think a lot of people just want their cars to look nice even if they're sporting a knockoff brand. to them, they see rotas or sportsmax wheels as something that gets the job done almost the same way as real brands do.
i think that's the mind-setting of most people that do buy knock offs.

And thats why other cities > us. Its been stated over and over, your pockets don't have to be deep to build a nice car, unless you're modding really high end cars or something, a little sacrifice goes a long way:thumb:

I don't mind criticism, people are entitled to their opinion just don't be an ass about it there's always a respectful way to get people to step their game up if you see a flaw in their strategy. but but while they're looking to purchase the real deal aren't they entitled to using alternatives if they like the look it brings? they're not allowed to enjoy the look until they do better? it's not like they intend to keep the lie alive so to speak, but as much as ppl may disagree with me, i'd rather rock a pair of rota's than rock a set of GSR blades/fat fives/Si's etc......but it seems that that's the only option that the scene's giving people and even then while rocking oem wheels the get hell as well.
another thing that i don't like to see at shows is trailer queens I'm sorry My car's my daily and that's not an option so me rocking that 400 dollar lip daily isn't something i'm gonna jump up and down about (god help you if you haven an authentic mugen lip) along with a few other accessories that ppl would rather not take the risk with.

:wrd: you pay money to use it. why pay outrageous amounts of money for something that never sees the street? i know not too many people are baller enough to keep replacing so and so part, but you'll get much more satisfaction out of using the expensive shit. that being said, don't go out of your way to hit every single pothole on kirby, or fly down the highway at 100 mph, but use your head. but in the end i guess whatever tickles your fancy. it's your stuff, no one can tell you what to buy and how to use it, it's your money.

I think you are misinterpreting what I'm saying.
Are Rota's/knock offs better looking than oems? Yes, in most cases I agree they do. Is it okay if it's temporary? Of course it is, if you can afford it. Is it okay to put said car in a car show and expect everyone to understand that you're just sporting them till something better comes along? FUCK NO.
Again, I'll say it once more: IF you are competing in a "Car Show", expect everyone that looks at your car to scrutinize/admire/hate your car. If you have plans to put on nicer wheels than some knock-offs, for the love of god, don't put your car in a show if it bothers you that someone (probably many) may say something negative. It's a show. Bring it or go home.
That's not to say your car is a piece. If you daily drive it, good for you, but nobody will really care at a show if you do or not. When I go to a car show, and I see some 14" BSA wheels, I don't pause to think, "Oh, it's cool, he drives it everyday" or "I bet he's saving up for some nice wheels, I hope the judges give him a 'good try' award". You can't be that naive to think that.
This is my thing: If I think my car is good enough to compete with the big dogs, I'll show my car. If not, I'm not putting it out there. I am my own greatest critic. I never have posted my car unless I'm getting rid of it. I hate the internet because you never have that sense of discovery when you go to a show. Now most people have seen every car on every forum on the net. It takes away the oooOOOooOOOooo factor.
If you like the way your daily looks, then fuck it, that's what it is, it's all good. But if it looks like ass, and you put it in a show, you're gonna get raped.

Its a stupid way of seeing things but could that be a possibility? There have been alot of meets lately in houseont popping up.

In Cali they do have alot of meets, some are weekly but for different occassions or groups. Even when they have a big show/meet, people bring it.
Those guys plan for the big meets. I'm not saying we don't, but they try and bring something new to the bigger shows/meets like Eibach, Nisei, Theory, Chinatown etc.

guess i understand now more or less. can't say i agree with the first point fully but i see what you're saying and i can respect that requirement to take it to the next level and i know that ppl aren't gonna assume i'm planning to do better. Thats the reason my car isn't in any car shows. it's not perfect and i know my rota's are a big no no. and at this point and time seeing as it's my daily and soon to be weekend track car i doubt it ever will be.
jesse your right i should rock high dollar items if i own them. i was considering buying a replica lip of the one i own now mainly because i have such shittastic luck with lips (gone through three already) and this one in particular was hard enough to come by at such a good deal (IMO probably the cheapest out of all authentic lips really lol) but fuck it, if it breaks fuck it couldn't stay perfect forever. guess i'll break the previous owners habbit.
now if someone could just help me locate a set of Hart CP-035's in 17x7 or 17x7.5 (i won't be picky about the color since they're hard enough to find as it is) i could bring something i feel is really special to the car scene

Shit I wish I could blame it on that.It had 2 screws on left and 2 on the right and the lip had holes to bolt it up from the bottom like stock with it bolted up from all 3, or was it 5?, holes. When I realized it was gone there was fiberglass attached to the screws under the bumper:cry:

but i got a bonus, my Kaminari side skirts, one flew off on the way back from the track on I-10, the other flew off making a u turn after work (i didn't install the lip kit some shop that used to be sponsored on here did) and the rear lip (also kaminari) got ripped off by some huge ass tree stump that must have fell off osmeones car while going down kirby from work but hey rear lip and one side skirt surivived. True but one way or another something motivates all of us. I think it's just a little extra something to help our drive. Over time I've talked to alot of people that have been featured and "some" if not most of them will happen to mention " They always wanted to be featured". We should do it for our own gratification first, whatever else is a plus.

:wrd: this is also why you should always get a receipt when buying from a shop, and need to have some means to documentation as to what you own and have on your car, as well as some kind of estimate on what it's worth.

Now most people have seen every car on every forum on the net. It takes away the oooOOOooOOOooo factor.
If you like the way your daily looks, then fuck it, that's what it is, it's all good. But if it looks like ass, and you put it in a show, you're gonna get raped.

Wow, this thread is good reading. For realz!
People need to learn their own style and build cars to their liking. I never understood why people care so much what others think about their car.
I could give two shits what someone else thinks of my xB. Its my car and its my style. I am building it for me and me alone. I have taken it to shows throughout its life but thats because its something I enjoy doing.
Buy/modify what you like. You dont need to please everyone that sees your car. You need to please yourself. I do a lot of research into EVERYTHING that I buy. More research than most do when they are having kids and getting married...LOL!
btw...fkn awesome pics drew! AAaaaaaaaaaawWWWWWWWWWwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!! lol!

Great Thread!! Houston has great potential, which was
obvious in the late 90's and could easily be captioned in 2008.
In my aspect, the scene has been on the down since 2001. I am
not sure if it is the people that were involved then have moved on
or the new "generation" has not grasped the concept of a show
quality car. To be honest the only show that I have enjoyed was
the JSPEK shows (great cars and people). Granted there are meets
held occasionally but not all the cars badest cars in the city are
present. Rarely does all or most of the sickest cars show up at one
show, meet, or location. I know as well as others there are people
that hardly ever drive there cars (like me) that would like an event
where no one is going to be reving engines, burning out, cops show up
etc.. There are alot of enthusiasts that have set the bar high back
in the late nineties and it would be nice to see that trend come back.
I speak for myself when I say could we have a show where it was
held during the day so it could be an event, alot of quality cars, good
music/food, graffiti contest, break dance crews, few tables
for shoe heads and sponsors for the event. This type of function is
realistic it is happening in Norcal and Socal more than once a year.

"featured car of the month" would be cool...would motivate us to fix up our cars :eek9:
cant wait to get started :)
Hate to say it but we can only feature something worth featuring to begin with. When I started writing for the front page it's hard to get people to even cooperate with H-I.com to be a feature in the first place. It's like people don't take me serious enough when I ask will they be a feature for the front page (even after the other articles have been up for a lil over a year). Believe it or not it's easier to ask then get it done.
That being said anyone think that they have what it takes to be on the front page please feel free to pm me for my email and I'll see what we can set up. If we have enough cars to go month by month on then we can do it.

If you love your car, then nothing can deter you from building it the way you want. If something does happen to it, like a wreck or a theft, then learn from your mistakes and come back even stronger the second time around!
amen :)
