enlighten me flores. FICA?
Sorry, bad joke.
The Federal Insurance Contributions Act (FICA) tax is a United States payroll (or employment) tax[1] imposed by the federal government on both employees and employers to fund Social Security and Medicare—federal programs that provide benefits for retirees, the disabled, and children of deceased workers. Social Security benefits include old-age, survivors, and disability insurance (OASDI); Medicare provides hospital insurance benefits.
FICA (or Social Security/Medidcare) taxes get pulled out of your check for the first 102k you make in 2008. Once your gross for the year exceeds that amount, you don't get hit with that tax anymore. (works out to about 6k a year they tax you on FICA). (the limit keeps going up, BTW, last year it was 95k, year before it was 92k, year before it was 90k)
SO... the money that was going towards FICA suddenly goes to your NET bottom line = instant pay raise!
It's a flat 6.2% tax, with no dedutions or exceptions, most people pay more FICA at the end of the year than they do in Income Taxes. (a technicality, this refers to the fact that MOST (more than half) of taxpayers end up paying an insignificant amount of Income Tax, after their deductions and exceptions kick in)

Sorry, bad joke.
(a technicality, this refers to the fact that MOST (more than half) of taxpayers end up paying an insignificant amount of Income Tax, after their deductions and exceptions kick in)
Thanks for the input. It'll be a good ten years before I make 102k a year.

When I was going to school (19-21CR a semester) and working full time, I thought I was going to die. NOTHING I have done since then has even approached the work load I had back then.

Ah nice. My cousin works for those guys. So did you start the business or did you inherit it?
P.S. They ship mostly heavy machinery to South and Central America along with vehicles...
nah...I've been in the biz about 10 years...I started my own company almost 4 years ago...
No...Energy Freight Systems I think is their complete name...they do everything...planes, boats but from my understanding they are more "general commodities"....Im about 95% oilfield

Never heard of em...but in this buisness there are so many small mom and pop companies its impossible to know everyone...Not saying that "Westem" is a small company but i've never ran across paths with them
