not bad for an entry level bimmer. packs quite a punch for a tiny car.

Meh. I was really hoping that the 1-series would start closer to 32-33K.

No, I'm pretty sure $35k is the base price.

so why are they quoting all the options?? im confused. id pay 18k for a bare ass minimum bimmer with the 3.5 turbocharged engine.

BMW announced base pricing on the 1-series at the L.A. Auto Show, removing some doubt. The 128i coupe, with a 3.0-liter, 230 horsepower I6, starts at $29,375. The 135i, with twin-turbo, 300-horsepower six, comes in at $35,600.

Destination for the 1 Series coupes is the same as the rest of the BMW model line up, $775, so with destination the base prices are:
Model MY2008
128i Coupe $29,375
135i Coupe $35,675

BMW said fully loaded the car would be high 30s at most low 40s so that maybe accurate for a fully loaded 1 series.

Higher than I expected... but give it 2 years... the used market will make these cars about 25 by 2009/10

i think BASE e90s might. But with taxes it will go back up either ways. But the way bmw is.. you totally want the options, and the options cost an assload. My ride cost around 40k, and thats without electronic seat adjustment and without the 'leave your keys in your pocket forever' thing.

..then again if i had gotten those, i'd miss out on the color + angel eyes and a bunch of other shit.

imo the price is too high cuz the 335i sedan starts at 38k and the coupe starts at 40k. if i was going to buy one whats another 3 to 5k to "upgrade"??????

There better not be any M versions of the 1 series. There is only one M1.

The 135i will probably be as close as BMW gets to making an M1. They kinda painted themselves into a corner in terms of names and designations. Don't even get me started on pricing.

Don't be surprised to see a 135i with an 'M Sport Package' or something, which really means some different interior and dash trim, a chin spoiler, maybe different mirrors, and maybe a wheel/tire upgrade.

Has anyone noticed at BMW that almost everything has moved up a level from where they used to be? The 1-series is priced like the 3-series from years ago(maybe E36?). The 3-series has grown to the point where some say the E92 M3 is almost like the E39 M5 in terms of weight, spec, etc.

You might see some people complain a bit, but otherwise, people will keep buying BMWs because...well, they're BMWs, and people will always buy them. It's almost like the "Big 3's" pickup trucks.

i would love to see bmw follow thru with their drift program. they are talking/deciding if they should go into professional drifting with their new 1 series. 3.0 TT sounds like a nice engine

That's with a lot of manufacturers. i.e. Honda and the Civic, VW with the Golf, etc.

35k i'm sure will be WELL worth the price for the twin turbo 135i. the base model being at 29k isn't too bad either. should be a heck of a performer for having such a nice engine in a smaller vehicle.

There is a reason the 135i is going to be a little more. From the beginning BMW said that it will be coming with certain things as standard that would be options on the 128i, and most of those are options on the E90 (spec out an E90 and you're in the mid 40s...if it's a coupe a bit more).

135i (other than the motor) comes with
M technik aero kit
Staggered 18" alloyswith run-flats
Xenon Adaptive Headlights with auto-leveling, and cornering lights
Retractable, high-intensity headlight washers
Heated dual power mirrors and heated windshield washer jets(both coupes)
Integrated rear spoiler
Sport suspension calibration

Then both come with a whole sleugh of things that used to be considered extras a couple years ago...
2-way power glass moonroof with “one-touch” operation, sliding interior sunshade, and wind deflector
Automatic climate control – includes micro-filter, automatic air recirculation, left/right temperature control, MAX A/C, heat at rest, and recall of individual user settings
Dynamic Cruise Control
Rain-sensing windshield wipers and Automatic headlight control
and that is just highlights of the things that jumped out at me...

omg bmw's are so ugly and over priced. only people with small penisesesses would ever drive that bavarian garbage. totally not worth the money because i could buy a civic or a mustang and put 5 grand in it and have a totally better car that would win in a drag race.

who the hell cares about drag racing? It's gotta be the only motorsport on the planet where you spend massive amounts of money for LESS seat time...

Nah never going to happen. There can only be 1 M1, and it's the grandpappy of the M cars.
