When looking at the dyno numbers, the car is rated at 5300rpms, so it's making much more than 260hp. I'm thinking they just ended the test at 5300rpms since they hit the numbers they needed to get certified.
Plus look at the torque numbers, it's hitting max torque numbers at 2,000rpm. Very impressive. Gotta love the direct injection and VVT.
This will be a good buy at $20k.

With its balanced tuning, the Cobalt SS delivers a quick 0-60 time of approximately 5.7 seconds – thanks to the manual transmission's "no-lift shift" feature – and a sports car-like maximum lateral grip of 0.9 g. This combination enabled the Cobalt SS to set a new class record while circulating the famed Nürburgring racing circuit, posting a time of 8:22.85 minutes.

with the new engine.. i hope they put stronger axels and and better clutch in too.. that was the only shitty thing about the supercharged cobalt... every time u launch the car hard at the track.. ur back at the dealer replacing axels..

nice to see that they followed through on replacing the supercharger.
if they ever wanted to develop an AWD platform, it'd probably be a hot seller.

why they never went with the turbo motor to begin with i'll never know. its not like it hadn't already been around for a while when the cobalt originally came out. glad to see that it finally is getting it.

Here goes some pictures. I like how the Turbo SS is a little more understated than the SC SS.

That's a fast Nurburgring time. It's beating out a lot of cars with similar or better power/weight ratios.

not bad low 20's , it will only come out for about 1 1/2 yr, so it will be a good grab, since it will be replaced in the near future. and performance parts will still keep coming since the sky/solstice is still in production. I might have to go check it out. chevy doesnt come out with many turbo cars.

better suspension better brakes more power.. hopefully a better transmission axels and clutch.. it doesnt have the nasty wing on the back... im gonna say... this is what gm should have done in the first place..
if this would have came out when the srt4 did.. they might have had a chance to compete in the market... now i dont think there is a market anymore... everyone is starting to fix up those ugly cars like the new caliber srt4 and the hhr...
