http://www.egmcartech.com/2007/10/17/nissan-qashqai-diesel-completes-867-miles-on-one-tank/
Nissan said today that its Qashqai crossover diesel model drove the length of Britain on one tank, covering over 867 miles without stopping for fuel.
Nissan test drives took the Qashqai from Land’s End on the southwest coast of England to John O’Groats on the northeast tip of Scotland, covering 867 miles. Even after the trip was completed the 17 gallon tank had 1.8 gallons left over. The Nissan Qashqai averaged 67.35 mpg during the whole trip which is 29 percent better than the 52.3 mpg stated in the brochure.
Nissan said that its test drivers followed speed limits maintained a cruising speed of 60 mph. The trip was a part of Nissan’s efforts to raise awareness about its products and their efficiency. According to Nissan the Qashqai emitted an average 111g/km of CO2, as compared to the 145g/km stated in the brochure
The Nissan Qashqai was designed and produced in Europe and has already sold more than 70,000 units since its launch early this year.

I wouldn't really call it eco friendly... its just a diesel with badass gas mileage. Not a hybrid, fuel cell, etc... experimental fuel vehicle.
Regardless... assuming it has any pep too it what so ever as not to be run over on Houston highways... i'd drive the shit out of that thing.

VW doesn't represent Germany, LOL, they are the equivalent of Chevrolet in Europe! I say give VW 10+ years and they will match the reliability of a good Japanese car. This does not include Mitsubishi.

Actually, I would say that Opel is probably the same as Chevy in Europe... VW is more like a Mercury.

Any day, your majesty.
I have to admit, the VW TDi is a very fuel efficient vehicle. The problem I have with VW is all of my friends who've had them complain about them. So even though VW is 10 years ahead of the game with efficient diesel technology, and even though their race teams kick ass, they should really put more R&D into their passenger vehicle reliability.
I may have been rude in calling VW a polished turd, but there are tons of people who think VW is the marque of German engineering. I don't even think Nissan is that badass to be honest with you.

Its funny that NONE of you people ever owned a VW but seem to be experts in their quality.... :)
My only complant from my VW GTi was FWD.

You don't have to own something to know it's not all that great.
Nissan Rogue??
I was thinking the same.

I bought a 2001 VW Passat 2.0 turbo new over an Acura or Lexus in 2001.
I thought I might give German engineering a try. Worst auto purchase ever. I kept the car for 60k miles before i gave up. Back to Japanese cars now and much happier. The worst japanese car ie nissan or mazda is light years ahead of VW, BMW or Mercedes. The only exception to this is Porsche. They have built the same car since the 50's and perfected it. that's my .02 and yes I have owned all these cars I have bashed.

My sister owns an 02 GTi. She too knows the service people at Momentum by name. And after getting everything repaired. It still has problems. :)

When it comes to technological advancement, BMW and Mercedes are ahead of most packs. Mercedes probably doesn't have the greatest reliability, but when it comes to being ahead, MB does lots of innovating. Second of all, Nissan and Mazda aren't the worst Japanese carmakers. That award goes to Mitsubishi.

Thank you. I know Mitsubshiti has never been that great, but most Japanese automakers are pretty solid, with Honda/Toyota being at the very top.
