After months of spy shots and drip-fed teasers Nissan’s all new GT-R super-coupe has been revealed with the early release of the December issue of MotorTrend. The tagline on the magazine’s cover claims the car is as fast as the Porsche 911 Turbo and is priced less than $80,000, confirming rumors the new GT-R will set a new standard in bang-for-your-buck comparisons.
Other details include the GT-R’s acceleration time of 3.5 seconds for the 0-60mph and 11.7 seconds for the quarter mile. Top speed is claimed to be a staggering 192mph.
Although we still don’t have any official details about the car’s new drivetrain, most are expecting to see a 3.8L V6 engine fed by a pair of turbochargers and mated to a dual-clutch gearbox with the latest ATESSA all-wheel drive setup. The car should measure in at 4,650mm in length and 1,920mm across. There’s rumored to be three different flavors of the new GT-R, starting with a 450hp entry-level model and ranging up to a 530hp flagship. This latter version is expected to be a stripped out racer with plenty of carbon-fiber and a track-tuned suspension.
Stay tuned for the flood of official details and images once the car is revealed at next week’s Tokyo Motor Show.

Who are you? 80 posts and you are already a failure.
The car is going to be $70k+, if it is to compete with the likes of the Z06 and the Porsche 911 Turbo, one would expect it to look extremely nice.

What does my post count and knowing who I am have to do making an obvious observation? Oh no, not another forum bully. What, are you going to do, tell the rest of your HI click on me? :weirdo:
Calm your ass down and don't get your panties up in a bunch. I just noticed the trend among this message bored. Just because it doesn't look like something you are use to doesn't qualify as it being shitty.

That was a valiant effort trying to make me the antagonist. You are calling people bitchy and picky for not agreeing with you.

Wait, so you're saying if it looks like something "we" are used to, it's shitty? I don't understand your logic. Even the Jack Sparrow compass would have a hard time following that one.
Aesthetic appearance and preference is subjective. While everyone agrees the raw numbers of the GT-R is very impressive, a lot of people do not agree on the way it looks. It's preference. You may happen to like it so therefore other people should too? If they don't they are "spoiled brats?" Who's really getting their panties in a bunch?

Howso? Just because I don't agree with most of the people on this forum doesn't make me a forum bully.
That was a valiant effort trying to make me the antagonist. You are calling people bitchy and picky for not agreeing with you.Valiant effort? Wow, what are you smoking? Because I want some.
Seriously, why bring up the subject of my post count and who I am? How is that relevant? It isn't. I'm looking at it from a neutral standpoint. I think the car looks damn good. You don't have to agree with me, and no way did I come across as "bitch, agree with me or else" BUT
I notice the forum trend of everybody agreeing with each other because they have "senority" meaning, "Oh look at me, I've been a member since 1950!" Your point is moot.
I think you should take your own advice. LOL poaned.
Poaned? O.o Am I to be impressed by your shitty lingo?

R34 GTR>GT-R
This is what I mean. People will hold on to what they are use to. Nature of the beast my friend. If you have a hard time following that, then surely you'll need your compadres to help you.
Spoild brats in terms of, people are afraid of something different, so they express their thoughts by acting bratty and bitchy. Again, people fail to see my point. I'm not asking anyone or forcing for that matter to agree with me.
Reading is fundamental.
I don't understand, I disagree with masses and all of a sudden it's Me vs. World?
Your post count here is directly related to how tight you are with people here, and seeing that you really don't participate on this forum, I don't see how you can call people bitchy and brats without really knowing them. And yes, doing what you did is a form of "forum bullying". I believe you're trying to flame on someone to earn you some respect, since you're practically a noob. I think you should pick someone else.
So that said, you're the one who went off the deep end, so take a bit of your own advice and chill the fuck out before I get my "click" on you.

Uh there are plenty of people on the board who think the GT-R looks fantastic. And there are plenty of people who think the car looks like ass. Nobody was offended when those opinions were stated nor were they acting bratty or bitchy on this thread until your post.
Reading is fundamental.
So is writing.
Ryan (-=E36=-) thinks the GT-R looks fantastic. Since his opinion differs from mine, I think I will Forum Bully the poor bastard and call him a bitchy brat.

This is exactly what I'm talking about, judging others by post count.
The reaction was expected. Now I have the "regulars" jumping on me because I dare challenged what most people agree on. What disturbs me the most about the entire "forum click" is that everyone sucks each others dick and will co-sign for each other. That was the main idea but of course you fucks would probably never understand that.
Noob pmsing? How would you know if I am cool with some of the people? Great fucking logic there! You make references to people that are suppose to be important? Do I care? Not really. Carry on with your business while I continue to post my opinions about Automotive News unless I became banned for some apparent reason.

define that and i'll take you up on that offer too. in other words, throw out a track time you think it won't beat, or a trap speed it won't reach. something that shows it's a turd. and if it's reasonable, i.e. 911's time, i'll take you up on that bet. what's $20 or $40? nothing. all in good car talk fun. :thumb:

the only one i think that MIGHT, a HUGE MIGHT, have a chance with a carrera gt, is the stripped out version they were talking about making. i say HUGE MIGHT, b/c it depends on the weight of the thing. 100 pounds lighter than stock isn't anything to brag about. 500+ pounds is though.

Remember, Bang for the Buck. So while people are paying high dollar for the vette, you can look to spend significantly less for something equally as fast with tons of room to mod! the interior looks good but i dont like the square screen in the middle its too square lol. Everything else looks nice and i like the design except the front bumper, should have kept the GTR look but why not available in stick shift!!!??I'm sure it'll be available in manual. Yup no doubt the numbers look great. A lot of people are complaining about it's weight. Try driving a car that weighs less than 3K lbs, high horsepower, and no wings for downforce. It's pretty unnerving. Even though this car is almost 4K lbs, it has a lot of grip and a lot of power to boot. Will it beat a Z06 around the track? The car is not out yet so we'll see. It would most certainly be more comfortable to drive around town that's for sure.
But I think they dropped the ball on its appearance. The front wheel arches distracts the flow. If they made the reference line a little bit more horizontal, it wouldn't make the rear wheels appear so much smaller. Also the window line makes it look like a convertible with the top not completely up.

i saw that, but you know how mag times are. i'm gonna wait until i see times from ppl at the track. like the c6 z06 hitting a 10.87 on dr's. that 11.7 could have been a driver who just floored it when the light turned green. no special launch or anything. or, it could've been the best time possible. but i'm being optimistic. i don't think nissan is gonna release a 'turd' as some have put it. it very well could be, but i'm gonna stay optimistic.

define that and i'll take you up on that offer too. in other words, throw out a track time you think it won't beat, or a trap speed it won't reach. something that shows it's a turd. and if it's reasonable, i.e. 911's time, i'll take you up on that bet. what's $20 or $40? nothing. all in good car talk fun. :thumb:

The inside looks like ass. The dash looks hella high, hopefully the driving position sits well. Those AC controls look like they belong in a chevy. The seats also don't look the part. Not as supportive looking as the GTRs of past.

Motor Trend is now reporting that when the GT-R was lapping the Nurburgring, Nissan engineers recorded the best lap time at 7:35.
Reliable sources told Motor Trend that the Nissan GT-R beat the Porsche 996 GT2, Porsche 977 Turbo and the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren. The 7:35 time of the Nissan GT-R is one second slower than the Koenigsegg CCR and two seconds slower than the Pagani Zonda F.

see it in person and get used to it first. it's easy to pass judgement at first glance. at least that applies to me as well. i like it, but i have to see it in person. pictures usually don't do anything justice. that applies to more than just cars.

Oh I'm sorry did I hurt your lil feelwings? Look around you, you are the only person here getting upset about this thing being an overpriced shit wagon. Not my fault Nissan tried to beat Porsche and in the process lost to a two year old Chevy. Not that an 11.7 is going to be enough to beat a 997 turbo anyway.:_reeyon:
Moreover, I hope Nissan isn't relying on styling cause as a sports car that thing is worthless at $80k.
actually, if the reports are accurate, the GTR is a bit faster than both, at least around the ring
http://www.motortrend.com/future/spied_vehicles/112_0712_2008_nissan_gt_r
And the 80k price is the top of the line model, I think the base model is closer to 50k. I am by no means a fan of the styling, but you gotta admit the perfermance is pretty impressive

There is always going to be a few hold-outs in the styling department with the fan boys.
The new Miata was met with a very similar mix of positive and negative reactions, but we felt REALLY let down as Mazda had kept the styling under pretty tight wraps.
At least Nissan showed the show car well in advance, and really made no secret about the styling direction this car was taking, and very little imagination (well let's face it, NO imagination) was needed to see what the exterior of the finished product would look like.
I don't see why the finished product should come as a surprise to anybody.
Jeff Goji
10-18-2007, 06:10 PM
But look on the bright side!
If you get enough potential buyers bitching about the design, then like the new Miata, you may see a re-design in the very near future!
The NC is going under the knife for a face lift in 09, so maybe you could have a better looking GT-R by say, 2011? :p
Salesman: THIS CAR IS FASTER THAN A PORSCHE TURBO, HAS A DRIVETRAIN MORE ADVANCED THAN MOST EXOTIC CARS AND IS SO FAST ITS PREDECESSORS WERE BANNED FROM COMPETITION DUE TO AN INHERENT AND UNFAIR ADVANTAGE!!!!
Oh wait, as absurd as all of those things sound...they aren't. :2cooleek:
997 turbos run 11.50's in the quarter, so by faster I'm guessing you are talking about the "7:35" ring time. Which has only been "confirmed", but not not publicly confirmed by the company selling said car. Sounds like great salesmanship is at work here not great engineering.
Believe what you want, but in this case I think it wont perform as good as it looks, and that isn't saying much.

What else would you want from the GTR to have appeal to you? The 997 turbo and this car arent meant to go in a straight line and even if the GTR runs a 11.7 in the quarter is that not respectable?
Motortrend is a fairly reliable source. I'd take anyone here up on a bet that that 7.35 time is real. :)

Knowing you probably have never been in either car this is just from your observations. Be honest and let everyone know if it's 911, GTR, or a tie in these aspects.

If price is no object, then just buy a McLaren F1 or Ferrari Enzo and destroy BOTH cars both on and off the track.
Comfort wise, the Z06 has been pretty heavily criticized for it's ride comfort on the street.
As far as the track comment is concerned, so far the only track times we have seen have been for "The Green Hell", and the victor in that match is the GT-R.

According to who again? Oh yeah Nissan, but they don't even have those mysterious numbers to show either now do they, they just have the rumor mill in full swing for nut riders to have a stepping stone onto the GTR bandwagon. /thread
Also, the point was to beat the Porsche 997 Turbo not the F1. Thus your argument is flawed from the start. Game ova!:thumb:

GM did the same thing with the C6 generation of Vette before it's introduction, both for the standard C6 and the Z06.
Come to think of it, Dodge did that with the Viper too... Oh wait, EVERY car manufacturer has done that when it came to producing a high performance car.
So what makes Nissan so different in this case?
Manufacturer claims are just a part of the car business.
Also, the point was to beat the Porsche 997 Turbo not the F1. Thus your argument is flawed from the start. Game ova!:thumb:
I read this post of yours and assumed you were talking about the Z06:
If you want a faster car for cheaper buy a Z06. Who cares about price we're talking about performance, comfort, style, and the feel of real leather here.
If you are in fact trying to beat a Porsche GT2 instead, then, your argument is the most flawed of all.
You are trying to pit an $80,000 dollar car against a $150,000 car.
Of COURSE the $150,000 Porsche is going to be faster, look at that premium over the GT-R and tell me you would accept a Porsche that was slower than a GT-R for more money.
That is like pitting a $20,000 Miata against a $90,000 Dodge Viper.
That is Just plan absurd.
If we use that kind of logic, then you might as well compare the GT-R to the Veryon, or F1, or some other high dollar machine.
Yeah it will lose, but it wasn't designed to compete with those cars in the first place.
The same way it wasn't built as a head to head competitor against the GT2.
Oh and anyone who has ever been in a new Z06 will tell you it is hands down a Daily Driver car. I don't see the GTR being DD anytime soon.
Actually I have talked with a few Z06 owners, and the consensus is that the suspension is too rough for a daily driven vehicle (especially on Houston streets.)
EVO magazine and Top Gear also said the same thing.
So we could run around in circles arguing about something as silly as who's sources are right, but let's agree to disagree on this one.
We haven't had any real hands on driving experiences with the production GT-R have we? None that I've seen.
So to rule it out already as a bad daily driver is pretty pointless.

kbb says that and avg 4.3 of 5 reliability rating based on 81 who voted. sure.
edmunds rated 7/10 which is mediocre in my eyes.
msn said there was no reliability report on their end. great find!
the other edmund's poll vouched for its reliability. not bad.
the jd power's segment mentioned nothing of its reliability, and seemed pretty much like an ad. and an overwhelming majority of service writers/managers i've met think that jd power polls are shit btw.
most of my claim is based on direct owner feedback, and what i've seen in a few magazines, such as this:
http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/ConsumerReportsSnapshot.aspx?year=2007&make=Chevrolet&model=Corvette
Highs: Super car acceleration and handling, controls.
Lows: Fit and finish, turning circle, reliability.
Fit and finish, although improved, doesn't match the car's price tag.
Reliability remains well below average.
:Ewave1:
and that's about as much as i care to bicker.

The Corvette is known to be a relaible sports car...I've read many things to back this up...
Usually in consumer reports when the "predicted relability" might be low... the owner satisfaction is at the top of the list... so explain that. Not to mention that there "predicted reliability" has a strong bias just because its labeled as a Chevrolet.
Another note, repairs and maintnence for the Corvette cost a fraction of other cars in its catagory.

From my experience with Vette owners, they always seem to be happy...
Yes, the Vette is cheaper than just about anything that comes close to it in performance, Chevy has to cut cost somewhere... This is why the interior feels cheap to some, and this is where some might find room to complain. But as far as many of the mechanical components like the engine (LS2) and transmission (T-56), its a very solid car
And again, in Consumer reports, The Vette tops the owner satisfaction list

No dobut the GT-R will perform....
I just dont think it has the capablilities of the Z06... (at least not at any reasonable cost).
And the Z06 has already been out for 3 years now, we should be seeing an even more powerful Z06 very soon. Which should be insane considering the current Z06 is capable of high 10s in the 1/4 with a sticky tire.
Traction is the only reason why we might see this GT-R with similar 1/4 times as the Z06... Anyone know what the GT-R is trappin at?
I didnt mean to bring this to a GT-R vs. Z06 topic.... But it seems only appropriate considering these 2 are the cheapest supercars on the planet.
Quarter mile wise the Vette will destroy the GTR, but we're being fair to the other end of this and factoring the handling of both cars. Which would be a close battle. (So Nissan says)

i'm not gonna argue the 1/4 times in stock trim. but being that's a twin turbo setup, and that nissan was quoted to saying that they left room for tuners, i'm anxious to see what a tune and basic bolt ons do to this car. i would just like to also ad that i won't really take the mag times to heart. 11.7 is more than likely a time they ran after driving for awhile on the first day. it could be right on the money, but time will tell.

When people think "I want a sports car and I can afford roughly $80k", Nissan is certainly not among the brands that immediately come to mind.
Nissan will have to make a name for themselves in the segment if they want to move cars at this price.

I agree...If you can afford an $80k car, most like you are your not gonna want to carry that boy racer image that this new GT-R screams.
Agreed by all involved. This will be a tough sell in the segment. Z06, Viper, and 911 are big names in the United States. Nissan isn't thought of as a performance car maker on this side of the pond.

that's like saying "who in America buys a $70k+ Chevy"?
my point is, this car would have made a lot more sense being an Infiniti(an expensive Nissan) in the United States. People here dont just buy a car, they buy the service that comes with it. Infiniti service > Nissan service. You wouldnt want to be stuck with an $80k+ car with shitty service.
Here, the service that comes with purchasing the vehicle is as important as the vehicle itself.
I wouldn't dream of buying an expensive performance car from an "affordable" dealer. heh

turn up the boost on that gt-r and watch it run a 10 in the quarter. :)
the skyline that was out 10 years ago handled pretty good for a nissan, 10 years of development should have it near perfection. i wouldnt doubt if that gt-r beats a z06 at the ring. maybe a by a second, but either way it will be a tough match.

Yeah it could go fast, or it could blow up, fact is we don't know what it will do. Also, the old one wasn't a 3700# lead boat anchor. That could have been the key to it's excellent awd handling.

well, that remains to be seen. remember, there are those that have r34's and such who have money. ppl know of skylines and whatnot. the gt-r will definately strike the interest of these consumers. very rarely do i meet ignorant folks when it comes to sports cars. although, the first ignorant dude i met was at a HPD meet. lol. dumb redneck. back to point, posting these statements are meaningless until the car is released and the #'s speak for themselves.

all skylines have been relatively heavy in the 3500ish weight category. more power usually means more weight for a beefier chassis with an enjoyable ride to boot.

the point is that the VAST majority of the people that can afford these cars have no idea what a skyline is and therefore will just see it as a WAY overpriced nissan wannabe. sure there are those that have r34's but its only a handful. certainly not enough to warrant mass producing an $80k nissan. they better have some DAMN good marketing strategies up their sleeves!

Yep. Ppl are trying to put the fire out, but I like adding more fuel.
The new GT-R doesn't look that ugly to me anymore. It's just that some angles looks like a POS New Eclipse.
snap, Yimmy noticed something strange about that video ... time is taken at the very end of that straight. Skip to the end, time for that video stops at the beginning of the straight. WHY.

I believe thats the same thing they asked about when Best MOTORing did the time attack in the NSX-R which ran a 7:56.xxx. Same thing... wonder why.

Also, not 100% sure on this but thats a moving start, wasnt the z06s time from a stand still?

all of the runs i've seen for official times at this track are from rolling starts be it production car or company race cars.

Yeah... that might be why the NSX-R time was stopped there as well. That could be the end of the track.
Z06 was from a standstill?

.. before the words blowing up even get around that motor those turbos will be maxed out. so no, it will not blow up with a boost controller. and.. the block is good for 1000hp. hard to believe? call bullshit all yall want, 20 years ago they designed a motor that held 700hp on stock bottom. 20 years later i know they know how to make them stronger.
z06? proven already, faster time at the ring than the z06. what else is there to say? less power than a vette, heavier than a vette.
nissan haters: before any honda race car, since the 70s, nissan was racing skylines and 510's. 40 years later, still making history world wide... :Optimus:

Anyone have info on the tires on the GTR yet? Changing momentum on a 3800lb car isnt easy. God.. 3800 lbs. I just cant fathom how a 2 seater that size can weight so much. Did they double the steel on every part of the drivetrain so it could tow a trailor?
