TOKYO — Toyota will roll out its RiN Concept, which encourages good posture and helps you to retrain your mood, at the 2007 Tokyo Auto Show. The Japanese automaker says the golf-cart-like RiN "promotes a healthier well-being."
The bulky-looking RiN is highlighted by green glass that is said to reduce the infiltration of ultraviolet and infrared light. "(It) makes the surroundings seem brighter and clearer to increase cabin comfort," Toyota said. Seats are designed to maintain good back posture and there's an oxygen-level conditioner and pinpoint humidifier as well. Even the headlights are polite. They feature "light distribution control" that takes "into consideration pedestrians and vehicles coming in the opposite direction."
The automaker says the concept was inspired by the "deep-rooted and tall-growing Yakusugi tree," a type of Japanese cypress.
An intriguing feature is "image displays aligned with the driver's psychological state that are conveyed within the meter cluster of the 'mood-training' steering control." Toyota doesn't exactly explain how this setup works. One can only wonder if it delivers a Pavlovian-style electric zap if you let loose with a few cuss words or drops a grape out of the instrument panel as a reward for good behavior. Presumably, it doesn't have such amenities as ashtrays — a calming feature from the automotive Stone Age.
No word on how the RiN is powered, either, another mystery that should be solved when the vehicle hits the auto show floor later in the month.
