Roush, the loudest critic of NASCAR's decision to allow the Japanese automaker to enter the Nextel Cup series this season, said he's "preparing myself for siege" on the track and in the boardroom this year.

"I expect to hand Toyota their head over the short term," Roush said on Wednesday during NASCAR's preseason media tour.

Roush, who has said in the past that Americans shouldn't buy foreign cars because it hurts the economy, believes that Toyota's entry will hurt NASCAR because the automaker will outspend teams affiliated with domestic automakers.

But he's ready for a fight.

"Nobody's frightened," Roush said. "We're going to go to war with them, and they should give us their best shot."

I saw something on espn about this.

that camry is made in america. some of those "american" cars they race are made in canada and mexico. lol.

something that im not too clear about...

alot of the japanese imports are made in the US. would that not help the US economy? also, alot of american cars are outsourced to mexico. does that not harm our economy?

"imports" built and sold in the USA benefit in many ways. When Ford lays off another 50,000 workers, guess which plant they'll get hired at?

I like the shit talking tho, hehe ... it MIGHT make NASCAR worth following. Ok maybe not.

Yeah, driver Dale Jarett(Toyota Camry UPS Car) was asked about it and said

"We could get into the argument about where the Ford Fusion is built; every one of them are built in Mexico," Jarrett said. "The Monte Carlos are built in Canada. So we could go through all that stuff and see who is right and who is wrong. But there are a lot of Toyotas that are built in the United States. They employ a lot of people."

he has a point though. More $ = more R&D = better stuff / cars

but its not like Roush isnt at the top either, he has like 6 cars running in Nextel alone.

I think its just 'words of exchange' to bring wider audiences to watch nascar. Some will come to see their team beat toyota! (more power to them)...some will come to see Toyota beat the domestics (more power to them)...in the end..its win-win-situation for Nascar cus they attained a larger audience and more media room. Its just tactics of non-paid advertising.

i wasnt talking about that part. im talking about the part where toyota would have the biggest budget allowing them acces to higher quality and better developed parts, even with all the restrictions of nascar regulations.

to all the people saying we need (indy, f1, gt, rally, etc) drivers, you cant just hop in a nascar and think your gonna pwn everyone. Look at Borris Said, he dominates at Infineon (Sears Point) and Watkins Glen, but on all the oval tracks he sucks ass.

Roush is an ignorant, ugly American who knows racing but has no F*****G clue about the world economy. I will spare the world me on a soapbox about this but suffice it to say, American car companies should be ashamed they cannot make a car that is competitive on the world market. When they do, Americans will buy American cars again. Until then, no freakin way I will EVER buy something with a bowtie Chrysler label on it. Sorry, I still think Ford did good with the Mustang.

my nascar loving friend informed me that the toyota's are already just as fast as the other cars...i think the last track day(daytona i believe), a toyota set the 2nd fastest lap time.

i dont c what the big deal is, american cars race in other countries...they dont freak out about it...nascar needs some diversity and some technological advancement...maybe toyota can introduce them 2 fuel injection :thumb:

colin was being scouted by nascar teams a while back.

he won his first daytona 24 hr and his first indy 500, which qualifies him for not being ridiculed for being a bad driver....in f1 he was though

You can argue about their budget all you want, but lets not forget General Motors is still the largest corporation in the world, and that hasn't helped them win any races.

*car corporation

ExxonMobil, Wal-Mart, Shell and BP are bigger

and Roush is right, Toyota should give him their best shot
