I still wish it would come in a standard 6-speed tranny with a clutch, just because it's more fun to drive, regardless of the fact that this thing shifts faster.
I do understand that it needs the paddle-shifter setup to compete with the likes of an M3 and other cars of that nature.

Needs more agressively offset wheels...and a manual transmission.
The raised hoodline gives the profile a BMW 5-series feel.

A most beautiful and exquisite ride! I want one.
Needs more agressively offset wheels...and a manual transmission.
The raised hoodline gives the profile a BMW 5-series feel.
my only complaint is that it doesnt have a real manual transmission...the wheels arent that bad IMO.

Lexus today unveiled the IS-F luxury sedan at the 2007 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The all-new 2008 IS-F will target the BMW M3 and Audi RS4, delivering more than 400 horsepower and 350 ft.-lbs. of torque from a 5.0-liter V8 engine. It will eventually be offered as a two-door coupe, as well.
any explaination on that or does that belong to something else?

well it does say lf-a above the engine in the picture next to it. and boo to no manual transmission.

It's not so much the number of gears that disappoints us, but rather the lack of a clutch.

Ditto.
Lexus needs to be real careful with this sporty makeover they've started. The main customer base(old people, conservative middle aged) don't really like this sort of thing, and might be alienated.
Lexus needs to be sure that they are going to hit this other, more performance-oriented target market right on the dot, otherwise they won't get many sales from either camp. The old people won't want them, and the younger, sportier crowd won't think they're sporty enough to take them away from BMW.

In order for them to accomplish that, they will definitely have to come out with a manual version of the is350. A manual IS-F wouldn't hurt either, but it doesn't need to be a manual to compete with the M3.

i dont think they have to come out with a manual, and i dont think the older crowd is not going to consider this car or the gs-f either because when the E55 came out i did not hear alot of older people saying "i wish this had a clutch" plus this car is going to be in the mid to high 50's and for most of us that is out of our price range so dont worry if you cant even afford it. also if you look at the numbers the new porsche is faster in the automatic

Right, but I wouldn't bother comparing a Porsche to a sports sedan. The IS-F is a car that I WILL consider, and for those who appreciate long-term reliability and low maintenence issues, the reputation of Lexus will have an edge when compared to BMW. I personally would prefer to drive a clutch. That's just my preference, regardless of whether an SMG tranny shifts faster than a human or if it comes with more gears.

Yeah, this is what I'm talking about. By not offering manual trannies, Lexus isn't quite up to BMW's level yet. It's not enough to sway loyal customers to their side yet. Unfortunately, this new sporting attitude will probably turn off Lexus' loyal conservative customers.
It's kind of like crossing a stream on stepping stones and having one foot in front and the other behind.
AMG went through the same growing pains, though. They're on track now though, especially if they get to make 'Black Edition' cars like they want to. :thumb:

The problem is, Lexus is trying to give everything a more sporty feel. It isn't just the line of 'F' model cars.

It will be moreso the downfall of the is350 than of this car. Like I said, it's competing directly with the M3, which doesn't have a manual either.

Yes, but it's Lexus, not Toyota we're talking about. The Toyota brand has always sold most of its models very well. The clientele of the luxury segment will always be harder to please.

you also have to think is it worth it to pay about $15,000 for just 92 horsepower because thats what that car is going to have 398 hp and also the car is only going to be .4 seconds faster than the IS350 0-60 i think you could take that 15 grand and do a hell of alot more like a turbo setup and make close to 500

Well that's true, and I can tell you that if the is350 is eventually offered with a manual, I'd have more fun getting that and doing a turbo project on it. On the other hand, the F has more gears, and more standard power. Each side has its positives and negatives.

the increase in recall / service bulletins showing up on the big news sites & channels over the past 2 yrs have actually contributed to toyota's increase in sales AND maintained reliability standings. sit down and think about it some. : )

That's right, because Toyota is committed to standing behind their products and taking responsibility for their errors. That is much more than can be said about many other car manufacturers.
