I was wondering the same thing ... freaking Duratec? Interesting to note how behind American engineering is:
Ford's 3.5L V6 makes 265 hp and 250 lbft of torque while the Nissan and Toyota 3.5L V6es make 306/268 and 306/277, respectively. Is Ford using Nissan technology from a few years back?
Seems like America should also outsource engine design to Asia :kekegay:

Each engine must be available in a regular-production, U.S.-specification model on sale no later than the first quarter of 2007 in a vehicle priced no more than $54,000, a price cap indexed to the average cost of a new vehicle.

thats what i was about to say. ward's def has a score sheet to rank engines and such.
thats probably why bugatti's monster engine is not on there.
I thought Ford used union labor?

al you sure do hate ford lol
al you sure do hate ford lol
LOL. Ford just needs to give up and simply sell trucks, Econoline vans, their high end Mustangs, and the Ford GT. Their other products are pure crap. They pissed me off with their Xterra clone Escape, complete with yellow paint and tubular roof rack. Isn't Ford trying to sell Aston Martin? Shucks.

I'm rather surprised a K20 or F22 series isn't on there, but then again I'm not. They have very good power/displacement especially considering they are NA. The reliability, strength, and tunability (new word) are excellent, but I guess it doesn't appear to be that great against superchaged V8 if you're only looking at hp.
Glad the VQ is in there though.

You did notice that there aren't any supercharged V8s on the list, right?

Using that Argument Nissan Sucks because all they could get out of a 5.6l is 317 whereas GM got 315 out of a 5.3l. Or the toyota 4.7l at 271hp vs the gm 4.8l at 295hp. Both with the use of good ole 16 value pushrod technology.

I'm surprised the ls2 isn't in there. A motor that produces way more power than the VQ, is lighter than some 6 cyclinder engines out there, and still gets better gas mileage

The VQ makes good PEAK power, but from all the dyno grafts I've seen of that particular engine, the curves are almost like a mountain. Plus the gas mileage is subpar.
Both with the use of good ole 16 value pushrod technology.
Alot of people forget, the ohc has been around alot longer than the overhead valve (teh pushrod). The ohc has been around since the early 1920's.

Thanks for solidifying my argument. Ford should keep making great trucks, and Nissan should get out of the oversized vehicle market. Too many of Nissan's V8 vehicles made it to the least reliable list.
Outsourcing engines to each other will become more commonplace in 10 years. It's a pretty common already, but back in the day, Mitsubishi motors in Hyundais was not the greatest idea.

Funny cause we're acctually ahead of everyone in Flex Fuel Technology.
Thats the only engine on that list to have that capability

The Duratec in the Edge IS a good engine. All of you who are bashing it have probably never even seen an Edge, much less driven one. It's an all new engine, so please...remove your heads from your asses.
